Fans of the classic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series of games on the PS1 would have been over the moon when they heard the news we brought you last month. It was announced by the skating legend himself that the original game would be getting the HD treatment and making its way onto the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE as a digital download later this year.
The HD version will not just be a revamp of the original either, as we previously explained Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD will also include levels from the popular THPS2, something fans will be even more excited to hear as many regard it as the best skater game ever made.
While there is still no confirmation on the price of the new game, Activision, who will once again be publishing it, has announced it will be ‘about $15’, at the same time as pointing out summer as the time of year we can expect it to be released. When describing what’s in store with the new version they said ‘the gameplay in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD returns to controllers… the feel is cutting edge yet timeless.’
The publisher has also been kind enough to release some screens from the upcoming game, showing off the new ‘sharp visuals’ they describe, which are bound to bring back some fond memories for the fans old and new. You can check them out by clicking the link below. While the old soundtrack is regarded as being one of the best on a game ever, details about the new version are still unknown but are expected to be announced soon.
Some of the old features that have been confirmed to be in the new game according to CVG include the goals, such as Secret DVD (not VHS anymore), S-K-A-T-E and more, the ability to do the manuals trick in THPS levels, a cast of skaters that includes Riley Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Rodney Mullen, Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, Chris Cole, Nyjah Huston and the main man himself. The levels are made up of enhanced versions of the best 7 from both original games as voted for by the fans.
