If the life of an adventurer is getting too much for you to handle in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you will be pleased to know that there is an alternative way to have a successful life available and that’s through marriage. While some of you might be thinking that way of life is very romantic, others might need a little more persuading if they are to even consider it, in which case the ownership of your own house, a beneficial home cooked meal a day, a better night’s sleep and a guarantee weekly income of 100 gold might just be enough to sway even the most fearless of adventurers.

In order to get married in Skyrim, players must first obtain the Amulet of Mara. Wearing this pendant lets potential spouses know that you are available and gives you the option to propose, providing they are interested in you. The easiest way to get hold of one of these Amulets is by visiting the Riften Temple of Mara and buying one for 200 gold from the priest Maramal. Once married a whole new life becomes available to you including several benefits. Not only do you gain an achievement trophy for getting hitched in Skyrim but you also get unique dialogue available to you when taking to your spouse, such as ‘Could you cook something for me ?’ after which you receive a home cooked meal which can be later accessed via you inventory. This meal isn’t just any meal however; it gives you a limited stamina, magicka and health boost.

Another benefit of being married comes from ‘Lover’s Comfort’ which is gained from sharing a bed with your spouse. This gives you a 15% boost to the speed at which you would normally upgrade from eight hours sleep. Probably the most beneficial aspect of marriage is the weekly income of 100 gold which is obtained from the store which your spouse sets up once you’re married. You get your share each week simply by asking your spouse ‘Has the store made any money?’ this also accumulates so don’t worry if you do not collect for a few weeks.
