For those of you who have been waiting the whole weekend to get stuck into the Final Fantasy XIV open beta that was supposed to begin today at 7.00pm PST, we have some disappointing news that the open beta has been delayed indefinitely and is experiencing problems.
While Square Enix members were emailed instructions this morning on how to download, register and access the beta, we were also told that the sign-up page http://entry.ffxiv.com/ would not go live until 7.00pm PST tonight.
However, if you tried to access the page this morning, you would have been given the news that the beta had been postponed for all north american gamers due to “critical bugs.” It has since been discovered that the UK version (http://entry.ffxiv.com/eu/index.html) also depicts the same issue citing “critical bugs” for the delay.

“FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be released at a later date. Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software’s installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.”
For those of you who were waiting anxiously for the open beta to start, what do you make of this situation? Surely these “critical bugs” would have been ironed out long before release?
