It has been a while since we last had a solid update on the highly anticipated Final Fantasy X HD remake on the PS Vita and PS3. Many gamers feel that Square-Enix are taking too long on the game, especially since it was recently confirmed that the excellent Wii U remake of Wind Waker HD only needed six months of development time.
Having said that, Final Fantasy X HD and X-2 HD are still looking like they will be well worth the wait. This week, we’re pleased to finally confirm a release date for when the game will be available in Japan. Although this obviously isn’t the UK and US Final Fantasy X HD release date that you are after, it could be a solid confirmation that the game won’t be out in western regions until early 2014 – unfortunately.
Square-Enix has just confirmed that the game is out on December 26 in Japan, relating to both the PS Vita and PS3 versions of the HD remasters. This is obviously a lot later than most of you had been expecting, and it probably ends all hope of the game releasing in 2013 for US and UK markets.
This is disappointing either way you look at it, but hopefully Square-Enix will at least announce a western release soon now that they have gone official with the release date for Japan.
To move on to some good news, we can tell you that Square-Enix plans to introduce several exciting bundles for the game. Japanese gamers will have the option of picking up a dual PS Vita Twin Pack, both on PS Vita physical card and digital – consisting of Final Fantasy X HD and Final Fantasy X-2 HD in one package.
This package will also contain extras such as the Last Mission content for X-2, as well as some ‘bonus audio’. Square-Enix has already priced this package at 7,140 yen ($73) for retail and 6,400 yen ($64) for a digital copy – obviously those conversions are just for reference purposes.
So far there has been no confirmation that this dual PS Vita bundle will be available to UK and US gamers, but we have already seen a massive amount of interest in it. Hopefully Square-Enix are listening and will make it happen.
You can check out full details on the available bundles here. Give us your reaction to the game now looking likely to come out in 2014 instead.
