Are you excited about Sony’s E3 2013 press conference yet? If not, you should be as don’t forget one of the confirmed announcements in store is the unveiling of Final Fantasy for the next-gen Sony PS4. Speculation has been brewing that this could well turn out to be the infamous Final Fantasy Versus XIII project, and now we have some new evidence to share with you, bringing us one step closer to this possible outcome.
It was back in February of this year that we told you about possible plans for Final Fantasy Versus XIII to be reimagined as Final Fantasy 15 and would instead release as a Sony PS4 exclusive. We haven’t heard too many details since to back up these bold claims, but Amazon has offered up a piece of new evidence which could be related to the Versus XIII release saga.
It has become apparent that the online retailer is no longer selling Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The discovery made on the Neogaf forums reveals that Amazon were initially accepting pre-orders on the game as of October 2012, but have now removed the option for consumers to purchase completely.
On the Final Fantasy Versus XIII page on Amazon, the retailer instead advises consumers to sign up to be notified about when a purchase can be made again. While this could be a thin rumor, it could also be a big sign that Square-Enix are planning to make some changes to the game and will announce plans for Final Fantasy Versus XIII at E3 2013 in a few days time.
Considering that the company will be releasing Final Fantasy 14 at the end of August, it does make sense for Square-Enix to now focus on Final Fantasy XV, and have Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns serve as the final chapter in the XIII series of games.
Either way, Square-Enix are showing off next-gen Final Fantasy on the PS4 at E3, so let us know if you think it will turn out to be Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Could it be the game that ultimately makes you buy a PS4 console?
