Fiber TV 2nd-generation features spotted

It seems like a Google Fiber TV 2nd generation is just around the corner, as a recent FCC filing has shown that Google is about to release a newer version of its set-top box. We are not certain as to when its public release will be and what sort of numbers will be released, although there have been rumors that Google could be about to give its small device a bigger push compared to the current-gen version.

Having said that, Google Fiber TV 2 availability will surely be limited to those areas that currently receive the service. Again, if Google wish to compete with rivals, then this availability will have to be increased.

This FCC filing does make us wonder if Google will release Fiber TV before or during Google I/O 2014? As for the details, these are limited, but there are a few clues.

Details of Fiber TV 2nd-generation features are limited at this moment, but we can tell you that some of the specs include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c/n, Bluetooth, 10/100 Ethernet, HDMI 1.4 and MoCA.

We also know that Google Fiber TV second generation will run Android, although we cannot be certain if this will be the latest version of the operating system.

Do you think Google Fiber TV 2 will be able to compete on a more level playing field with Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV? More details of this filing can be found on the FCC website.
