Fiat 500 recall letters sent out in UK

The recall that affected around 4,000 Fiat 500 models in Australia last July has now spread to the UK. We were prepared for this to happen, although we never knew when. However, we have learned from someone we know with one of these models that Fiat 500 recall letters have now been sent out to affected owners in the UK.

In the letter it goes on to report that several of these right hand drive city cars could have a fault with the wiring on the dashboard, as it could come into contact with the steering column.

There is a small chance that in time the wires could have worn leading to the exterior lighting and lights on the instrument panel failing, which is a real safety concern.

Fiat 500 recall

Fiat is asking that owners react to these letters being sent out, as they could have an affected model. You will need to call your local Fiat dealer in order to make an appointment so the vehicle can be checked.

We are told that this check will take around 20 minutes to complete and will be done free of charge. The letter says this time also includes the necessary rectification, which must mean just moving the wires away from the steering column.

You are asked to contact Fiat’s Customer Service Centre on 00800 3428 0000. If you are no longer the owner of the vehicle, then you will need to contact DVLA, as these letters have been sent out based on DVLA registered keeper records.
