There is no denying how popular the re-launch of the Fiat 500 was, the Abarth version followed shortly after — now we have news of a Speedster model. With Fiat and Chrysler working closer together on cars not only in the U.S. but Europe as well, it was only a matter of time before they designed a performance version of the Fiat 500 Abarth.
Not much is known, but Inside Line has a few details on hand. They believe that the Fiat 500 Abarth Speedster will come with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine; the turbocharger will help the car produce 163hp, not bad for a car so small and light. The Speedster will get from 0-60 much quicker than the current Arbath, which does it in 7.6 seconds.
To help keep all that extra horsepower under control will be a few revisions to the suspension — making it possible to take corners at greater speeds. One would presume that both automakers would consider larger breaks — what is the use of having more power if you are unable to stop it?
The Fiat 500 Abarth Speedster will have one target in mind, and that is the ever-popular Mini Cooper. Not certain if this will ever be achieved, but Fiat and Chrysler will certainly have a go.
