There was a strong desire to see some sort of Fallout 4 announcement during E3 and while most of us didn’t expect a release date, confirmation of the games development with a visual tease would have been welcomed.
Only a few days ago we published an article looking at what some gamers hoped to be a Fallout 4 tease from Pete Hines, although no details were given other than he’s seen the new project and it needs some time before any details are given.
Some of our readers expect this new project to be Fallout 4, but they were disappointed to hear that development had only started after Skyrim, so not as long as some gamers first thought if it is indeed Fallout 4.
Following on from our earlier article, Hines has commented a lot more about fan expectations and the new project currently being worked on. Hines made it clear to Polygon that Bethesda isn’t an annual release franchise and this is exactly why a lot of gamers love the work they produce.
We went hands-on with Skyrim for more than 1000 hours and you can easily see what Hines is talking about with this game alone. The last thing Bethesda would ever do is release a new Elder Scrolls game every year, so Elder Scrolls 6 won’t launch for a while yet.
Fallout 4 E3 absence and fan backlash — in the above article Hines made it clear that anyone expecting a Fallout 4 announcement is being “unrealistic” considering they’ve only just moved off another project. Sadly, Hines also made it clear he or ZeniMax have no set timeframe for an announcement.
It is true that a lot of gamers have patience and will wait as long as it takes for the Fallout 4 release date, but equally you’ll find just as many impatient gamers that want a release window as soon as possible.
These people will also point to Hines previous comments about making “more noise” in 2013, and in their opinion this hasn’t happened so far. Not all gamers would agree on that point, but we’ve seen hundreds of comments wondering where the noise is?
One reader stated, “I’m fed up with the wait after Hines said he can’t wait to show everything and they would be making considerable noise this year”. They continued, “I just want to know they’re working on something other than ESO, and I hope it’s Fallout 4”.
While we’ve seen a lot of backlash from certain gamers dying for Fallout 4 news, it is worth pointing out that we’ve seen some positive comments as well. These include the desire for “a new IP and a break from Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises”. Others explain that Bethesda/ZeniMax are amazing thanks to allowing time for embracing new ideas and letting developers create a game how they want.
Are you hoping Fallout 4 is the next release, or do you want to see something new? Also, do you join those on Twitter hitting out at Hines or are you supportive of the time taken before announcing details?
