Facebook Timeline: Genius or Gimmicky?

Now that Google + has gone public we have seen lots of changes and improvements made to Facebook, today at the f8 developers conference Mark Zuckerberg introduced the world to Facebook Timeline – today we will have a look at this upcoming addition to the popular social networking website.

Zuckerberg started by saying that “We’re more than what we did recently” and then went on to unveil Timeline – this is a new profile page which really allows you to show off who you are and where you have been etc – you can see a demo of Facebook Timeline here, as you can see this is a massively overhauled new Facebook profile page which appears to add uniqueness to your profile.

If you check out the link in the previous paragraph you can sign up for updates on the Facebook Timeline, which should mean that when this new feature goes live you will be amongst the first people to test the Timeline out – we just wonder if the timeline interests you that much.

We do agree that currently it is quite hard to find out about a person’s achievements in life etc by checking out their profile page, however if you are someone’s friend on Facebook chances are you will know where they have been and what they have done in life – obviously there will be some exceptions, but in general you know quite a lot about the people whom you add as a friend on Facebook.

Mark says that filling our your timeline will be easy and fun to do, also there will be clever integration of Facebook services to automatically add content to your Timeline – one example of this is Facebook paves, as it will map out your travel (see image below).

Below we have embedded an image which introduces you to the new Facebook Timeline – please watch it and then answer the following poll question – fee free to expand on your answers in the comments section.
