Since Facebook announced its new “Places” feature there has been a huge reaction on the web. This new service can be accessed from a number of devices, but the easiest has to be on the iPhone via the Places tab. For those who do not have an iPhone, then just visit the Facebook mobile website.
So let us see what some of the top websites think about the new location service, which will be in competition with the likes of Foursquare. Geoffrey A Fowler from WSJ points out that Foursquare and Gowalla were there during the announcement and thought “Facebook would be an enabler — not a competitor.”
Nick O’Neill from All Facebook points out that things do not look that great for Foursqaure all of a sudden, saying “not quite sure what value-add Foursquare brings to the table.” Do you agree with that assessment?
Leena Rao from TechCrunch explains that with Facebook offering this new service, advertiser will want to make use of the new Places page. This is true and is just another way where businesses will integrate even more tightly with the social networking site.
