Facebook and Spotify to provide music service, but not in US

We recently told you about a new service that Spotify was launching as an alternative to iTunes. The music streaming provider looks to grow further, with the news that Facebook and Spotify are to provide a music service but not in the US yet.

Parmy Olson from Forbes is reporting the music streaming service could be available within two weeks. Currently the new service is undergoing testing, and when available Facebook users will see a Spotify icon on the left side of their newsfeed. If users click on the icon the service will be installed on the desktop in the background.

Users will then be able to access the music library of Spotify which provides millions of music tracks. It is also claimed the service will allow Facebook users listen to music at the same time as their friends over the social network. For now the service won’t be available in the US, but Spotify are still in talks with record labels for the service to be available in the country.

While the new service was not confirmed by a spokesperson from Spotify the benefits for both parties will be huge. Facebook tried to get something similar a few years ago from the likes of Last.FM, and it will also allow Spotify to reach many more users who might sign up for their service.

The company currently charges UK users £10 per month for its premium service. It also has a free service but that only allows for ten hours of listening per month. Does the Spotify service interest you?
