Facebook are currently celebrating the 500 million (or half a billion) members it now holds in it’s cyber stables on the social networking galaxy. And with that, we have found 5 fun facts that show how much of an achievement this is for any company with that many users or customers.
The worlds largest and most popular social networking website which also topped the most visited websites in a report by Google has come a long way since it started in 2004.
The amount of users currently visiting the website is so vast that if it was a country, it would hold just a slightly smaller population to that of North America, and can fit 75 people on every one of the over 6.6 million sqaure miles of Russia, which is the largest country in the world by landmass. This means that if Facebook were infact a legal country, it would be the third largest populous nation behind China and India.
Facebook is growing so rapidly, that at the moment, we have almost double the personal computers to that of the Facebook population. But looking at the trends, it seems as though Facebook will overtake the computer population and make it to the 2 billionth mark before the computer does. This is taking into consideration the amount of mobile users Facebook has, which is currently around the 150 million mark.
If Facebook had a home, it would build its houses in North America, where 35.4 percent of the continent log on to the website every single month. Only 17 percent are European, and 2.3 percent living in Asia and Oceania. Although only 2.3 percent of the people living in Oceania (Australia and surrounding areas) use the website, they are the highest group of people that actually ‘Like’ Facebook as a brand.
Remember AOL? Yea, AOL Instant Messenger, the company that introduced internet conversation and connecting to the masses all them many moons ago. Well even when that was at it’s peak, it was only one-fifteeth the size of Facebook is in this day and age.
And finally, Facebook generates anything from $50 or 500 Facebook credits to the companies value per person. Making it worth around $22-$25 billion in estimated value. All this from a college kids idea. Now that’s serious business.
