Facebook 2.0 for BlackBerry – public download tomorrow on App World

The next few days looks set to be big on the BlackBerry front as RIM has been busy at work reorganising, planning and well, cutting. Earlier on today we heard that something “shiny, new and social all over” would be revealed tomorrow, which we think will turn out to be RIM’s presentation of the new BlackBerry 7 OS handsets we have all been talking about. But “shiny, new and social all over,” sounds like something else to me, something more like Facebook 2.0.

Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 has been knocking around for some time on the BlackBerry Beta Zone, so those of you who has been testing it since early May have more of an idea what to expect. We ran our first impressions review back then, and were overly impressed with the changes that had been made since the previous version.

To get a much more in depth look at what you can expect from Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0, you should check out this page here where we go through each new feature, step by step, and we’ve even added screenshots for you, because we’re nice like that.

However, as we understand, many other changes have also been added since the beta including enhanced notifications, cross-channel messaging, better intergration with other BlackBerry native apps, and even a touch toolbar.

Enhanced notifications will be the winner here, as now BlackBerry users will be informed of ‘Likes’ and ‘Event Wall posts.’ These will be delivered via polled notifications, which mean that you wont receive an update every time someone ‘Likes’ something, but instead get them in hourly frequencies. You can of course, refresh the app to see for yourself.

Many other notable enhancements include the popular Facebook Chat functionality. So far, we have only had access to 3rd party applications which do the job for you, but in our experience, they seem to be less than capable. Facebook Chat closes the gap just nicely, and will give you the opportunity to Go Online or Go Offline.

The makeup difference between 2.0 and the previous version is not all that noticable until you really start to play with it. You can download Facebook 2.0 for BlackBerry tomorrow via BlackBerry App World, who should push a notification your way to let you know that an update is available. Take it from us, if you use Facebook on a regular basis, we recommend this update. It could even convert you from using the mobile-web based version that you have been using due to lack of functionality from the previous Facebook version.

If you have used the beta version of Facebook 2.0 for BlackBerry, what has your experience been? Will you be downloading Facebook 2.0 for BlackBerry?
