Since the release of F.E.A.R 3, many sites have been eager to get their hands on the game in order to give readers a tasteful insight into the new release for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360. The game had great success in the hands of IGN’s reviewers as they praised it with an 8/10 score. They were particularly pleased with the way the horror genre was designed and presented to gamers as there were moments where music, graphics and gameplay combined created a very scary atmosphere. They also commended the game for having great lasting appeal.
Contrary to IGN’s opinion, Gamespot say that the game was not scary enough and featured poor visuals. Could this perhaps be a matter of opinion? They did however praise the co-op multiplayer modes and also the extra modes that gamers can play in order to turn away from the main story mode.
Eurogamer agreed with IGN’s score and also gave it a very good score of 8/10, also they agreed with Gamespot in saying that the game isn’t scary at all. They say that certain parts of the story are used too often as a scare tactic, and the only real scary parts are during cut-scenes which takes the control away from the gamer and thus the fear also. Nevertheless they did praise it for being a “finely crafted action game and an exceptionally inventive shooter.”
Machinima say this is all-round a very enticing game to play, whether it is online or offline play you feel like pursuing, there are plenty of modes to play and lots of things to get through in the story which granted an 8.5 from them.
Joystiq’s final say was that the game has a trade-off between fear and fun if you choose to add friends and play cooperatively. Either way however their review represents a moderately pleasing game that picked up a 3.5/5 score.
Overall we can summarise that most of the critics say that the game has great multiplayer features and game modes. Where the game lacks precision is perhaps the genre itself.
