Extending BF3 Close Quarter map modes to base game

Now that Close Quarters is very accessible for normal BF3 players on PS3, aside from Premium, we thought we would ask you for your thoughts on the new maps and specifically – what you think of the new Gun Master and Conquest Domination modes.

These are two big additions to Battlefield 3 and at the moment the new modes are exclusive to the new smaller maps, identified as Donya Fortress, ScrapMetal, Ziba Tower and Operation 925. Gun Master is a nice variation of the popular Counter-Strike mode, but if we had to choose we would say that we’re having the most fun on Conquest Domination.

Playing this mode is a dramatic shake-up to normal Conquest, as you can capture flags in a matter of seconds. You can also lose the flags in a matter of seconds as well of course and as we explained earlier this week – a lot of people seem to have found a new way to use C4.

As fun as Conquest Domination is, would you like to see this new mode extended to other Battlefield maps? Lead Designer Alan Kertz recently sent out an interesting Tweet, stating that he was ‘curious’ to see whether people would want to play the new mode on other maps, which we’re guessing means both the vanilla maps and the four Back to Karkand maps as well.

We wouldn’t be against having it as a additional alternative to Conquest, but there’s no way that they should actually replace Conquest, with Conquest Domination. They would also need to make smaller versions of each map too to make this a reality, and that may be a huge job for DICE.

Right now we can’t imagine a Conquest Domination mode on the likes of Wake Island and Gulf of Oman, but a Conquest Domination mode on Operation Metro would be great if they can make the map smaller somehow. As for Gun Master, there is perhaps a little more flexibility with the map size, but again it would only really work on smaller maps like Tehran Highway and Grand Bazaar.

It would certainly be a risky move though and DICE obviously doesn’t want to annoy their community. We still prefer normal Conquest over Conquest Domination, but it’s good to see them asking the community for their opinions first.
