Europe may not see iPhone 5 release due to Samsung

We recently told you about Samsung’s plans to ban the iPhone 5 in Korea when it eventually gets launched. Now we have news that Europe may not see the iPhone 5 release as well due to Samsung’s legal challenge.

As we told you earlier today the illustrious iPhone 5 looks set to be revealed on October 4th by the company’s new CEO, Tim Cook. Even though there is nothing confirmed about the device, The Telegraph are now reporting the South Korean company feels it will have technology that breaks its patents.

There has been no official news about the next version of the iPhone, but Samsung thinks the new device will use telecoms patents that it holds. The technology giants have been involved in legal battles around the world for a few months now, which was kicked off by Apple accusing Samsung of copying its products.

Samsung quickly responded with their own legal arguments accusing Apple of exploiting their patents. A few weeks ago Apple won a temporary ban on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 device, the Europe wide ban was lifted but remains in place in Germany.

Apple accused Samsung of copying the iPad with the Galaxy Tab, but Samsung’s case against the iPhone 5 will be focused on patent infringements. A spokesman from Samsung stated that the company is currently “preparing aggressive legal suits against Apple”. This is a change of tact by the company who were previously on the defensive.

The spokesman added that Samsung feel they have a good chance of securing victory if they use their patents it owns. These legal disputes will probably continue to come thick and fast over the coming months, which will continue a growing trend we have seen this year between technology companies.

Do you think Samsung will be successful in banning the iPhone 5?
