We have received an update from the developers of the Elf Yourself app and published the email we received below this article. You can see the original article below and then an update below that.
Original article: The Elf Yourself app for Facebook is having a few problems during Christmas 2014, as reported by Product Reviews readers. We tried to access the online version of this app directly at Facebook, after receiving reports of an error, and when doing so saw the very “Secure browsing is not supported” message detailed in a couple of emails.
When you try to access the Elf Yourself app on Facebook, you could end up seeing the message displayed on this page. It basically explains that the “application does not yet support secure browsing (HTTPS)”, and then you are redirected the apps homepage on the social network.
If you go directly to the elfyourself.com website, you will be able to sign-in to Facebook and search for friends and you can even access further details on officedepot.com. In fact, you can see a recent Elf Yourself: Behind the Scenes video as well that we showcased below this article.
Problems with the Elf Yourself app for Facebook – it’s not clear if things have changed and the social application isn’t meant to work anymore, or if there’s a development issue for Christmas 2014. One thing we have noticed is the desire to access ElfYourself directly on Facebook, and this not being possible in Firefox or Safari at the time of writing thanks to the HTTPS error.
Have you tried to access the app on Facebook and experienced the same problem? If so, did you just opt for the Android and iPhone version or still want a native Facebook version? You can see some of the recent improvements made to the mobile versions in this article.
Update from app creators – “We are the creators of ElfYourself and greatly appreciate your kind attention to the product and your ongoing detailed reviews – both this year as well as past years.
I wanted to briefly clarify that the HTTPS error you encountered when searching for “ElfYourself” amongst Facebook’s apps, is the response that Facebook displays when an application page is unavailable.
The fact is that we did not register ElfYourself as a Facebook app. The app categories on Facebook are all geared towards games, and we did not see a good fit for ElfYourself, which we do not consider to be a game.
Therefore Elfyourself can be accessed directly at www.elfyourself.com, as well as in the iTunes, GooglePlay and (as of 3 days ago) on Amazon as a Kindle App, but is unavailable within Facebook.“
