We recently told you how Sony may have a big problem on their hands after it was confirmed that one user had managed to run unsigned code on the new PS Vita handheld system via the PSP emulator, but now we are hearing about some early problems related to the touch screen and system freezes.
For those of you that are not aware, Sony has just launched the PS Vita over in Japan, with another launch due this Friday in Hong Kong and a western launch following that on February 22nd next year for the US and Europe.
A video we have discovered though has shown clear evidence that the launch is not going as smoothly as Sony had hoped. First it was the first signs of hacking which we have mentioned above, and now it looks that some devices may be prone to one or two software issues. If you watch the video below, you’ll clearly see that the display screen has locked up, making the touch screen unresponsive.
According to the user who uploaded the video, the freeze occurs when performing a system update, and resulted in an C1-2650-3 error code as seen in a screenshot provided below. Kotaku has followed up on this story and they have included reports that system freezes are happening to other PS Vita users as well, notably to Kiryu Tsukimiya who is apparently a pro-gamer and had also experienced Vita freezing.
With the freezing issues aside, there also seems to be an additional problem involving the touch display, one which concerned onlookers may treat with considerable panic. Photos uploaded by a Japanese user here appear to suggest that the OLED display screen featured on the Vita is prone to leaving one or two lasting marks on the device, in some cases leaving the display screen scattered with rather ugly stains and black spots. We’re not sure how widespread this particular issue is, but those pictures do not look good.
If you have been lucky enough to get your hands on a Vita already, let us know if you are experiencing any of the problems above. To everyone else looking on, what are your thoughts on the issues? Confident that Sony can sort before next year’s US and EU launch?
