Today see’s the start of this year’s E3 expo which is put on by the Entertainment Software Association. This week E3 2011 will account for billions of hits for games and rumors about the industry. There will be new hardware being announced as well as numerous software titles.
The yearly show will set the stage for games and hardware which will take center stage over the coming year. Ben Kuchera of Ars Technica has spoke with Michael Gallagher, ESA’s President, who said that E3 is the most important event of its type in the world.
Last year saw twelve billion media impressions of the games and hardware shown at the event, and this year it s thought to be bigger still. Gallagher says that you don’t really know all the big announcements until the show and added “and that’s part of the magic of E3”. Things like the announcement of the new 360 system last year came as a surprise.
The current format of the show in Gallagher’s eyes is the correct one and feels the bigger and grander show’s fits with the “excitement, and growth” of the industry. He also thinks that people attending the show not only get to see the games but to play them as well. It also gives the chance for games to get maximum exposure with eighty countries being represented.
What are you most looking forward too with this year’s E3 event?
