Today is the official release date for the new Apple iPhone 4, but yesterday Verizon, Motorola and Google tried to take the shine off Apple’s launch day by revealing another direct competitor due for release on July 15 2010 — the Motorola Droid X.
Much like the iPhone, the Droid X was also leaked several weeks ago but now it is official, we will take a look at what separates these two phones when they go head to head.
First we start with processing power, as a full speed test is not yet available, we can only go by what we have been told, and the end result would see both of these phones on par with each other when it comes to speed.
When it comes to display and resolution, iPhone 4 is the hands down winner, with its ‘Retina display’ and more pixels per inch. Droid X’s screen is bigger by a whole 1.2 inches, but this makes the phone bigger, something some users don’t necessarily want.
Looking at the standard features of each phone, such as camera and multimedia, it’s quite hard to gage which one is better. While the iPhone packs a front facing camera, and the images look great, the Droid X comes out on top with its added HDMI-out port. The iPhone comes with a 5MP camera, whereas the Droid has 3MP more with an 8MP. We won’t know exactly how we can compare them for the time being, but looking at the specs we have to say they are on par with each other.
One of the biggest battles on the internet is the battle for number one phone OS, and with iOS vs Android, you’ve definitely got a fight on your hands. I’m sure you have read all about what makes these guys stand out from one another, but although Android has had some features way before iOS even made an appearance, they still have some catching up to do when considering the popularity of the iPhone’s UI and usability.
Of course, it’s completely down to the consumer which they prefer, both devices are real heavy hitters in the phone world. No one knows exactly which way this is going to go, but I can bet that Apple will be sweating a bit more than usual.
