Droid X Gingerbread update: Download build 4.5.596 now on rooted devices

Last week we informed you that Motorola and Verizon were finally rolling out an official update to Android Gingerbread for the Motorola Droid X smartphone, but now we can confirm that an official Gingerbread update is now available for those of you with rooted handsets as well.

This version of Android Gingerbread for the Droid X has an official build number of v4.5.596 and we’re hearing that it’s already available for selected users as part of Motorola’s first rollouts of the update.

However, that official version isn’t available for rooted users until now that is, as member P3Droid has released the very same version for those of you in rooted state – which is obviously a lot of you.

The full instructions and download links can be obtained over at Droid-Life, and judging by the nature of their post, you’ll need to read the instructions carefully and only attempt if you know what you’re doing. Failure to do this can always result in a bricked device, which nobody wants to see happen.

If you have a rooted Droid X and are willing to try this new version of Gingerbread out, let us know how you get on. Tell us how the handset is perfoming generally, and if you’ve spotted any serious bugs that we should know about.
