Droid X, Droid Pro and Droid 2 Gingerbread release date updates

It has been a long time coming and we’re sure some of you have opted to pursue software updates via ‘alternative’ methods shall we say, but we finally have official word from Motorola that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is coming to the Droid X, Droid Pro and Droid 2 handsets shortly.

The news was revealed over at Motorola’s official forums by an employee who was replying to a user question related to problems with Exchange ActiveSync on one of the handsets. Luckily for you, he also decided to reveal that these problems would be fixed in the Gingerbread update, as his message states below, reported by Phandroid;

”The Gingerbread (GB) software update will include improved Exchange Activesync functionality. The following Motorola Droid devices will be updated to GB: Droid X, Droid Pro, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global.”

So there we have it. If you currently own one of the above handsets and have resisted installing a custom or leaked version of Gingerbread, you can look forward to the official OTA update soon. We’ll let you know when that happens, hopefully it’s a matter of days rather than weeks.

On a side note, we’re also interested to hear from those who already have Gingerbread installed on the Droid X or one of the above devices. Do you regret installing, or is everything working like a dream? Would you advise other users to follow suit?
