Droid X: Android 2.2 Froyo Update – Motorola Halts Download

For those of you who are planning to update your Motorola Droid X to Android 2.2 Froyo using the recently released unofficial update – we have some bad news for you. Motorola is already on the case and has issued a C&D letter to the website responsible for hosting the update links.

As reported from Engadget, the cease and desist letter can now be viewed in it’s entirety over at My Droid World – the website which exclusively obtained the new Froyo update.

For those of you who already updated over the weekend, it is unclear what Motorola plans to do knowing that most of their users updated to a leaked ROM.

Will this make them push out an official version more quickly? Or are they planning some sort of punishment to those who updated to Froyo. We’ll give you an update on this story later.

Did you upgrade your Droid X with Froyo?

Rename it to Update.zip, and put it on the root of your card, then boot your phone into repair mode. (forgot how to do that)

I am running the Froyo leaked update. I’ll never buy another Motorola product again if they give me any trouble over it.

They can't punish anyone for installing the FroYo leak. And if you know what you are doing, you can always use the sbf and reflash your phone back to 2.1. Motorola needs to quit being so petty and work harder to get updates out faster. 2.2 has been out for a while. If they didn't try to force motoblur on people, the update would be ready and people wouldn't be downloading leaked updates. I want the original google experience and to have as much control over my device as possible. That is why I rooted to eliminate bloatware and I… Read more »

I updated my droid x, non rooted. 2.2 added a few bells and whistles including flash 10.1 Which is awesome. Pretty neat being able to watch a flash video imbedded into a page without hopping over to the youtube app. Unfortunately hulu still didn't work 🙁
