Droid Bionic: Summer release date still on – two reasons why

It has been a while since we last wrote about the Droid Bionic, and although the phone still isn’t out yet, we have cause for optimism now as Motorola has finally given consumers a much needed official update on the elusive device.

For months, Motorola and Verizon had seemingly preferred to sit back and let consumers pull their hair out on whether the device was still actually coming this year or not, a crucial question that consumers needed an answer to with other exciting smartphones out on the market.

The good news, is that Motorola has posted a brief message on their Twitter account, in reponse to a user who asked when the phone will be out since he warned Motorola that they will be losing a lot of customers if they didn’t release the dual-core equipped smartphone soon.

Perhaps feeling slightly under pressure, Motorola issued the following message:

‘DROID Bionic is coming and slated for summer release. Our team is working on some new updates.’

So as you can see, the good news is that the handset is still scheduled for Motorola’s revised Summer release after its initial delay, but obviously it would have put everyone’s mind at ease if they had just issued a solid release date other than just ‘Summer’.

Any official news is better than nothing though, so this will please a few of you who were starting to think that a Summer release for arguably the most anticipated Android device to date was becoming a lost cause.

On a side note, we have another reason to suggest that the phone will be available very soon. This may not be much to go on, but a leaked photo has recently been discovered, and it definitely looks like it could be an ‘in the wild’ shot of the Droid Bionic. One thing to point out here though, is that the Verizon branding is missing from the front of the device, and one of the changes that Motorola could have made is removing the Verizon branding from the device, or possibly switching it to the back instead.

We’re interested to see what ‘updates’ Motorola are talking about exactly in their recent Twitter update above as well. Could this be related to the battery and processor factors that we’ve previously talked about in the past, or perhaps some exciting new software features exclusive to the Droid Bionic? Time will tell, but please give us some more juicy info Motorola – consumers will not wait around forever.

Too late for Motorola. I’ve been waiting all summer for them to release the Bionic, but with Verizon changing their plans in the next week or so I decided on an HTC Droid Incredible 2, which I am sure I’ll be more than happy with as it will be my first smartphone. I expect several to follow in the next week if Bionic is not released because of the changing data plans. Motorola lost me as a customer. For now at least…We shall see what phones are out in two years when my contract is up.

Alan, I read your article: “Droid Bionic: Summer release date still on — two reasons why”. I guess English is not your primary language!
