Today’s update destroyed our new laptop. It shut down and will not work. Not even a factory reset would restore it. Its own built in repair system couldn’t fix it! Like I don’t have enough to deal with

  • Timothy J. Rager

With my headphones listening to something, it randomnly cuts off and im needing to restart constantly

  • Peb671

Restarted after todays update, now it either doesn’t load my Taskbar, or load it but takes almost 10 minutes to open anything. I restarted at the windows logo until the repair came up, but when i try to uninstall the updates, it says there was a problem and can’t uninstall them. Repair says it can’t repair and it won’t let me uninstall the updates in safe mode either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • sdmf74

After the most recent update every time I restart my monitors change to a lower resolution and it doesn’t even show native resolutions so I cant switch back

  • SD30

Mouse cursor slowed to the point of being unusable. Keyboard also decided to stop working. Laptop is UNUSABLE! Uninstalled both updates and fixed the problem.

  • HemiDog

2 laptops after an update task bar does not work, windows logo does not work , volume button does not work. pc cant be used cause the only way to shut it down is a hard shut down. Second one. you always knock off hp printers. It is off line again. Plus all kinds of messages cannot find folder, cannot delete, cannot cannot cannot. It is ridiculous. Then when I want to uninstall a program using the Control patter I got a cannot message there too so had to do a manual delete. I think you owe me a laptop and a printer.

  • getsuga04

recent windows updates crashes microsoft edge, wemod, office libre so far… uninstalled the 2 recent updates dated feb 12 ’21. everything ran fine again. held off updating until march 1st.

Switched on pc today 12.02.2021 and just background image, no icons and toolbar does not work. So going to create a boot drive and reimage the pc. What a nightmare.

  • Jessica Valentine

Win 10 is a joke! It’s not user friendly for anyone including advanced users. The updates are a joke, they’re always crashing my computer. I swear they do do this to make money, so people call in to pay Microsoft to pay crap they broke. I corrupted my windows update file and set the default values to zero, since you can’t delete it, so the updates wouldn’t happen. Worked great for a couple months and my computer worked flawlessly!! But it’s only a temporary fix, somehow it catches on to my little trick. Screw you Microsoft, just another money hungry corporation, like you don’t have enough money…

  • Uruz07

Latest Windows 10 caused my pc black screen and no normal start at all. Cannot get into login screen at all.. stupid update

  • Merritt Walker

Windows disappear when move mouse towards them – always been too sensitive but now renders performance almost useless for multitasking

  • Jomama

Their latest update crashed my pc. I had to remove power and restart, then windows removed the update.

  • Jay Cee

Updated last night. Today, everything attached to my taskbar is acting wonky. I have no clock. Earlier it was displaying “5:5”. The date has randomly disappeared either partially or fully. When clicking on the “start” menu, where the apps are accessed, the apps list will pop up and be normal for a moment or two until I scroll about a quarter of the way down. At that point it will stop displaying the names of the apps and instead show snippets of whatever text lays on the screen below the slide-up window!

Thus far these are merely minor annoyances, and I can live without all of that functionality; but it makes one wonder what lays beneath the obvious flaws?

Bill Gates made HOW MUCH money with this stuff? And that company continues to grow, despite the fact that THIS is the stuff they churn out?

    Wow, we’re a gullible lot, aren’t we?

  • Lois King

I have two laptops with Windows 10. I have had cursor problems with both of them especially playing Windows Store Solitaire and Classic Word…the cursor locks up often. I have added Avast to one laptop and am told Windows 10 has it’s own security program and you don’t need a second one. Could this be causing the lock up in downloaded games from Microsoft store? What else could be causing the cursor to lock or be erratic during playing these two games?

  • Josh Nelson

updated earlier today, now whenever I save images, open a folder etc most if not all of the text for file and folder names are missing, and when I use a document program like OpenOffice, if I type certain things like Z, X, or ; the entire row of text vanishes, I can’t even access or see the taskbar calendar, hovering my mouse over things on the desktop background causes the text to turn black and blurry. Hovering my mouse over anything in the taskbar shows a blank white square instead of the applications name, my spell check dictionary WordWeb looks like it’s been thrown in the blender with missing text, jumbled up text and Windows Security keeps finding and blocking malware like every thirty minutes, and right clicking only shows half or less of what it should

Seriously how can they push out and force “Updates” without finding such abhorrently obvious bugs that may as well be waving a banner covered in bright flashing christmas lights that declares it’s existence like “HERE I AM!” it’s not exactly hidden in some obscure corner where nobody’s looking.

At least game devs have stable versions and betas for future updates and it’s entirely optional and you can opt out at any time. With windows i feel like I’m being forced to always be on a buggy unstable beta rather than something that’s stable and it’s not even optional.

At least with games I can easily revert back to a stable version without it screaming at me to update my computer every few hours or having a message suddenly pop up on screen while I’m in the middle of typing and hitting the enter key as it pops up and suddenly restarting my laptop and installing updates.

Windows really gets up in your face about it whenever they release an update.

Then there’s always the annoying fact that the longer I go without updating, the slower and slower and slower every single application on my laptop becomes to the point just about everything will be “Not Responding” at which point I have no choice but to update my computer, in fact, that’s how I know whenever an “Update” is available to be installed, everything just slowly stops working.

  • Scott Sapsford

I had a big update yesterday 4th Feb, and another one a day later.
The 2nd one has killed my internet on my pc. Can still access internet on my TV.
I spoke to my ISP, and they ran me through a few things, something about the ip.
Accessing the modem on the computer works intermittently, but results are the same.. nothing’s working

  • Oncle

What was the win10 update 1/28/2021?

  • Simon Fergusson

Acer laptop will not reboot following latest patch. I usually uninstall the faulty update and wait until bugs have been ironed out before allowing it to install again. This time I cannot even uninstall because Microsoft wants my Microsoft password which I don’t know after all these years. Additionally the email address I used when it was set up is no longer operative. On another computer filled out their form to recover the account but apparently don’t have enough info to satisfy them. For a company of their size and sophistication they don’t seem to bench test their updates very well.

  • Georges Dahdouh

Some applications will not start unless run as administrator, otherwise it will go into a zombie mode were the application won’t start but won’t close either, and even end task won’t shut it down, also explorer has lots of issues, freezing, not refreshing, I spent 3 minutes just to create a new folder and rename it.

  • Ignacio Gonzalez

My laptop was able to boot but I can not launch anything windows related. I cant launch file explorer or even windows start menu so I cant access the logout or restart button or get into settings. I’m really tired of these auto updates

  • realist

win 10 froze last night when idling on a clock application wit the screen active. Later i found out that a new update has arrived and as usual the system hangs.

  • Steven flockton

My computer completed the update yesterday afternoon and was really slow then it froze caused my computer to turn off and I went to turn it back on and came up saying “smart faliure” retrieve data and replace your hard disk drive, it was working perfectly before I installed the update now its potentially broken my computer for good how can u resolve this for me

  • Pasomel

Most recent update affects my screen. Once it goes to sleep you cannot wake it up and have to power reset to regain access. I changed the setting to NEVER for the screen to sleep upon inactivity and so far this is helping.

  • Rock Island Line

Computer wouldn’t load after update last night. Autofix from start up couldn’t help. I wasn’t able to reload Windows. Resting computer didn’t help. Was totally locked out of my computer until I got around it by restoring to before the update. Thought I’d been taken over by a virus or a major hack.

  • Jerrie Baxton

The taskbar wouldn’t hide under no circumstance, tried everything. It hides right after rebooting the computer but then it’s always on top again! The problem is it covers a part of any active window which is not nice.

  • Riley Quin

My PC went from humming to close to a snail instantly. Programs take ages to open, simple webpages freeze. Its a nightmare

  • FrankK

I have never had (knock on wood.. lol) a problem with ANY Windows update. This runs the various computers I have had too. Nothing, nodda, zero problems. The article says “with users continuing to complain about Windows 10 problems on a daily basis”. This appears to be to tech savvy users only. I know quite a lot of people with Windows 10 and they can barely turn a computer on or know enough to make it work for what they want. I have never heard any of them complain about any update either.

So this leads me to believe that the complainers want everything perfect and I have news for you nothing is ever perfect. I have been lucky enough not to have any problems. It doesn’t mean that one day, maybe even January 12th, 2021 I won’t have a problem. I have found in my 34 years of goofing around with computers that most people “think” they are experts but have no clue really. They want all the bells and whistles and a perfect computer. There have been many times that I installed a software that messed up my computer. So I remove it and say I guess I didn’t need it.

As an example a few years ago a guy I know was doing “computer repairs” on the side. He proceeded to tell me about this one computer and the trouble it was having. I asked him if he ran the usual software that might help in locating the problem. He said I don’t do that. I just told the people I will install Windows 7 Ultimate because it’s the best version of Windows. The problem I had was it was a pirated copy he had. He’s dangerous and I argued with him that he had no idea what he was doing and didn’t know how to troubleshoot a hang nail. If anyone he did computer work for got caught with an illegal operating system, WOW. Like I said I know a bit about computers but nobody I know has had a problem where they needed help. In actuality people ask me more about cell phones which I look at but do NOT have one myself. It’s pretty much like a computer so it’s not a stretch to know it parallels a desktop OS. lol

    • Georges Dahdouh

I don’t believe that’s the case, when you loose suddenly your wifi, or when it takes 5 minutes to delete a file, while it’s stuck for the last 4 minutes 59 seconds on 99%, when you create a new folder, and you see nothing, but you need to refresh to see the new folder, and it won’t let you rename, these has nothing to do with tech savvy users messing up their OS. That’s pure failure from Microsoft.

  • Richard Collier

Windows havent been able to install almost single update since I 1st purchased their own brand Windows surface machine .. They are required for me to let them to take over the reigns of the operating system updates… and yet they cant even do the job

  • Bobby Childers

Everything I try to do in the horrible microsoft abortion called windows 10 gives me fits. I spend hours downloading files then windows either won’t allow me to work with them, or, simply deletes them for no reason. I’ve gone so far as to disable all virus software including the notoriously defective Defender app but Windows 10 still either destroys my files or renders them useless. Does anybody have a fix that actually works????

  • Purple Butterfly

I cannot even get to safe mode…. I tried pressing f8 repeatedly and got nothing

  • Purple Butterfly

After update, laptop attempted to restart and boot up… However, it won’t boot up

  • Debbie G.

Lost ALL my icons after Windows Update. Microsoft changed my icons to have little clouds in the left hand corner breaking ALL the links to my icons. Gee thanks Windows–I want my icons back!!!!

  • Debbie G.

Windows updated in the middle of a VERY long save in Adobe. Caused me to lose file. Seriously—if windows is going to force an update–then it needs to be flawless in determining if the computer is working already!

  • Debbie Economidis

I’m having several problems. Laptop is a bit slower, intermittent audio problems, screen intermittently flashing during Zoom calls, can’t “save as” from Chrome (“working on it”) but I can from Edge. That’s what I’ve noticed so far. So frustrating.

  • 5th Dimension

My pc is so slow to boot up and then freezes up between applications and I get the windows not responding and the rotating blue circle forever it seems. WTF! If updates are this problematical, give us the option to not install it. I only hope it happens to the software engineers on their own pc’s so they can also feel the aggravating pain and idiocy of their own mess.

  • Ian Warner

I can’t login into windows after windows update now. I tried to boot windows from a usb key boot loader, but no luck. Any ideas what to do to get my computer working again?

  • Tori Hartman

My lenovo is literally jumpy! OMG I try to click on anything and it opens up a different window! I tried to slow the mouse… but I can’t click on anything without it just opening all kinds of windows! UGH!!

  • Shan Nono

when i updated the latest feature and when i restart my laptop and log in it will go into a black screen with cursor

  • Brian Delaney

My PC has almost completely frozen. I can open the Settings screen, but can’t get any further. Apps don’t work and Start Button only works on right click.

  • Alexis Kennedy Author

Everything keeps freezing up over the past few weeks! No matter what program I’m working in, it freezes. I’ve updated, ran my anti-virus program as well as its utilities on a regular basis, and I even used Windows’ own virus scanner. Nothing helps.

  • angelosdaughter

Since the Sunday November 15th update my HP laptop is useless. All of my settings are gone. I thought my files were, too. I really panicked and had to look hard for them. They have been relocated. I personalize my screen and the next day it has reverted to a classic Windows screen. with the task bar at the bottom, not at the right side of the screen as I had set it.
I can no longer print from the laptop to my printer. Don’t know if the update was Windows10, or Google, but whichever one it is, it is pushing the new Edge browser., and an updated Google. I am VERY upset!!!. This update is a disaster. It needs to be undone.

  • Alan Bates

Windows 10 is not fit to be called an Operating System for business laptop or PC use. 5 years in the making and I can only see it fit for mobiles and hand held devices. Microsoft had no common sense, they should have ironed out the minor bugs with Win7. IMO all it needed was an improved search engine, continued security development and Windows Update Client’s AI needed debugging / improving – more to do with the way MS throw Updates out than fault with Win7 itself. If everyone reverted back to Win7 (if they cannot handle Linux!) it would be the best way of telling MS they are not going to make any money pushing crap onto PC Users/license holders any more. I have reverted all my PC’s to Win7, and ABSOLUTELY glad there is no support for MS to mess them up anymore. I actually now have time to use them as productive devices, instead of having to fix Win10 issues all the time. All you need is a good antivirus installed and block the small amount of CEIP it may run. Now I am Cortana free, MS spyware free, problem free….

  • Carl Sucro

I will indicate what line 10 should say with symbols. They currently read: “If you TRY the DROP DOWN on the TOP of this Page
    (https://www.product-reviews… for LOGIN – IT WORKS.If you do a
right-click on the drop down and select inspect element You get
    Login”
Line 10 should be “left arrow head” then the word “span” then “right arrow head” then the word “Login” then the “left arrow head” then the word “span” then the “right arrow head”

Note: the left and right arrow head I’m referring to is the shifted comma button and the shifted period button.

  • Carl Sucro

somehow this editor wont allow “””” in the text.

  • Carl Sucro

Somehow this editor keeps deleting from my line 9-12. Line 10 should have “” before and after the word “login” IE “Login” but every time I post the “” before and after the word Login disappear.

  • Paul Cartlidge

Windows 10 updated last night switched on tonight after 20 minutes of a circle going round I got to
the login screen only to followed by a black screen and I cant get past it! I have switched it off (forced) and restarted still the same so switched it off and walked away. I am SO glad I use a dual boot with Linux and only use w10 when I need to becase it is just absolute rubbish!

  • Sigerson Holmes

Just noticed that a Windows Update has “errored out” and not completed for the last three days. Never seen that happen before. Any ideas on what caused that?

  • Richard Edwards

I have windows 10 version 1511, 1 year 6 months no problem. it took 4 times installing-uninstalling til I got it to stop updating. glad I downloaded early version back in december 2015 and saved to cd.

  • vwman

Charles. Would it be wise to actually un-plug my desktop to discharge the capacitors. After the latest up-date, it will not recognize my 2nd monitor which worked like a champ until the update of Oct 7 or so. Thanks.

  • vwman

Every time I get a Win10 LARGE update, it screws with my graphics and monitor settings on my desktop. It will not detect my 2nd monitor no matter how many times I hear ” tutorials ” that note that I should update my graphics card driver. It always tells me I have the latest driver. Somehow I fixed the problem last time, but I don’t remember how I did it…?

Hasn’t Microsoft figured out how to update WIn10 without screwing up so many peoples’ pc’s….? Just look at all the problems their updates cause by googling ” Win10 Updates and damage to your pc;s.

If anyone has a tip on how my desktop can recognize my 2nd monitor, I’d appreciate it. Worked like a charm until I was
” forced ” to accept their latest update on or around October 7th or so.

  • Lee Helck

thanks a lot Microsoft. you have ruined two and a half months of work on my various games and their load orders. from what i am reading on the internet, the only way i can get my games working properly again after this update snafu is to do a clean reinstall of the O.S. thus destroying what took me almost three month’s work to create stable and working load orders for my various Bethesda games. not only that, but the font on my PC is barely legible now after this update. even though most of my games work properly, Skyrim Special Edition is a complete mess now and the framerate drops make it absolutely unplayable. there was absolutely nothing wrong with my game or the load order before the update and ran flawlessly. i have tried a clean reinstall of the game and tested it without any mods and it’s still an unplayable mess. i am not the only person experiencing this problem either. many of my Facebook gaming friends have reported similar issues to varying degrees across the Bethesda games lineup. Microsoft really screwed us all over this time.

  • DANA REYNOLDS

What the hell did they do last night? I can barely get on internet or my personal & business emails. Slower than ME. I would love 7 right now.

  • Emily Summer

I am done with windows. After August windows 10 update which totally crashed my computer, I am going with Apple now. More money, but less aggravation.

  • kosher_NYC

I lost several work clients, lost business / a serious amount of revenue from windows 10 crashing after updates. I would rather have a root canal without novocaine and a proctology exam at the same time than use this peas of sheet windows 10 but I don’t have a choice!

  • mrangryextele

Win10 is the biggest pile of spyware garbage ever to come from Microsoft…the monthly “forced” updater is an unfunny joke especially when it snoops around the inside of your machine removing programs without your permission and messing up your WIFI connection …it broke my machine a year ago and it has never run the same since.

Why a class action hasn’t been taken out against Microsoft for their sheer arrogance in bundling spyware dressed up as an operating system is beyond me.

If you have a win7 machine don’t put win10 in there unless you want to destroy your machine. Windows 10 is worse than Vista.

  • diviney

My Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 is processing 30 times slower than before the last updates were pushed a week or so ago. I had no restore points to remove the update. My desktop with Windows 10 was not affected following the last update. I cleared all caches, deleted many of my emails (Outlook repeated froze the laptop and had to power off to restart). No improvement. I expect Microsoft might be deliberateiy sabotaging operating systems to sell more products.

  • Gary de Sesa

I have been experiencing the dreaded STOPCODE error blue screen more often. Yesterday, twice in a row which has never happened. Anyone else with this problem?

  • Gloria Titch

Microsoft could give us all a free version of windows 8.1 or older so we could replace windows 10. I needed a new laptop and was forced to buy with windows 10. I have four windows 7 in my house and one windows 8.1 tablet. Windows 7 is our go to. I miss the old days.

  • Susan Beans

Last week Microsoft had a Windows 10 update, I scheduled it for 2 am, and at 8 am I discover my computer frozen on 92% and I had to manually turn off my computer and restart it. So one week later I get another prompt for a Windows 10 update, hoping that the first issue was now resolved I tried again, and again my computer froze at 92%. What is going on? Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Cliff Grondin

Everything is slow, typing is slow (usually a word or two behind what is being typed) mouse is slow (have to click 3-4 times to get it to open and then opening anything takes 5-10 secs to register it is opening. Just writing this took longer than it should waiting for the words to catch up.

  • Mark Eustace

I have a Lenovo Yoga 710 which was working perfectly at the weekend. The system updated on Monday and since then I can’t get my webcam to work. It either tells me it’s in use and to close the other program, even though there is nothing using it, or comes on for a few seconds and then goes off and keeps freezing – the white activity light constantly flashing between freezes.
I have reset the laptop back to factory and the camera worked okay again until I shut down the machine and rebooted the next morning – since then I’ve had no webcam, which means I can’t do the weekly Zoom chat with the rest of the family – gutted doesn’t cover it.
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

  • emeryberk

Photoshop CS6 has been running LIKE A SLUG, ever since the March Windows 10 updates.
Yes, you can delete the preferences file (AGAIN) and then something re-corrupts them within two Photoshop sessions.
This totally sucks. And Microsoft and Adobe are likely saying: “IT’S THEIR FAULT,” although I’m sure Adobe isn’t supporting CS6 any longer. Does anyone know of Photoshop CC 2020 has this SAME problem? I’d love to shell out $10.00 a month for ZERO improvement. I’m REALLY disgusted.

  • Tripleblades

I was playing Rainbow Six Siege a while ago and it randomly closed. then I watched youtube how to fix the problem and it randomly closed too. like every program that is running randomly closes.

  • Johnny Long

The March 13 2020 Win 10 update killed the WiFi on my MS Surface Pro. MS’s solution? “Havd you downloaded the latest WiFi driver?” REALLY? I can’t… NO Wi-Fi, stupid! Just ordered a USB Ethernet dongle from Amazon. Maybe on Monday I can find a solution? Bummer.

    • Johnny Long

WHAT THUH? I was up until 2 am this morning trying every fix suggested on the Internet- using my cell phone that remained connected to my home WiFi, and now? The Surfacd WiFi just mysteriously started. Now I’m thankful, mystified and SCARED – all at once! Just dont get it.

  • Donald Behenna

My laptop had Win 10 installed when I bought it 2 yr ago. I
installed win 7 card games ’cause I prefer them to recent ver. They
worked fine for ~ 2 yr. In Jan came update attempts which failed.
In Feb came a new window re. Updates which I kept putting off until
later. A few days ago the update window from hell finally caught me
asleep and installed itself without my authorization. So my biggest
complaint that I’ve discovered is that all those comfy card games
which fill my lonely hours DON’T WORK. Solitare.exe,
spidersolitare.exe, freecell.eve, etc. just sit there [ they were
removed from the listings in the start menu ]. Attempts to fix the
issue with the compatability troublemaker consistently yielded an
error window. I found a backdoor into the compatability
troublemaker that actually attempted to fix the issue – said it did
and I should try it – I did that a few times and then tried
hopefully to run the games all to no solution – still no action.
In the compatability troublemaker there seems to be no further
option if the FIX didn’t work, so I was left frustrated. I
downloaded the repair tool suggested above – restoro.eve – ran
that and still no progress. I happened to run McAfee AV which then
reported numerous files in restoro that needed quarantine, so I
    uninstalled that.

  • PollyWollyDoodle

I can relate but on a separate level. You have problems with the display changing while I have problems with my computer not remembering my login information. It changes whenever I restart my computer. Microsoft is really starting to piss me off too. I hope you get yours figured out.

  • PollyWollyDoodle

I am so fed up with Microsoft I could scream! Since the last update, I have to login to my MS account, into my Bing account, re-do my search settings, and sign into my Disqus account every time I restart my computer. This is infuriating. I am fed up with MS updates. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • squirefld

How frustrating. After the late February update my display desktop is a pale blue and the fonts are all over the place in size. Mostly smaller. The same thing is happening on two desktops in my house, one is a Intel I5 on a Gigabyte mother board and the other is an AMD on a Asus mother board. Trying to update drivers doesn’t do anything.

  • William Kim

i guess microsoft too busy working on new XBOX so “the bird” to all PC users, cuz what else we gonna use… linux? LOLL haha… really any suprise.. remember forcing win 10 on windows 8 weather you wanted it or not. and the constant forced super long to download and install mysterious updates… what could we do about it then, NOTHING. what can we do about win10 crashing now in 2020… PANIC, irrationally panic and be very very afraid.

  • Richard Richo

Hi, I did a forced windows update on thursday 13 feb 2020… next morning computer shuts down on start up… sometimes shuts down just after entering passwpassword and sometimes a minute or 2 after windows opens home screen… ddid try and restart in safe mode which did work for a longer period of time…
Very frustrating as this is a business computer and it is costing me time…
Does anyone know of a reason or have a fix for this yet???

  • joshua88

I first checked updates and there were none since January, except Firefox.
My computer is crawling. Last night worked fine. No idea why Windows and FF are so slow today. Taking forever to load W10 programs and also internet. Quite strange, especially if there were no W updates. Maybe check again…

  • kd6dm

Latest update ended with a black screen, and a box advising that Windows was setting up a personalized experience for something. 10 mins later, no progress. With Task Manager, tried to restart Explorer, failed. Tried to log off, failed. Hard reset, Windows started OK.

  • Ellen Brantley

I thought I had always had the latest version of windows because I have automatic updates on. However, I found I did not have the latest. I updated manually because the updates website stated I already had the latest version????? Now, since updating, my mouse has got a mind of its own. Highlighting items, opening other windows, jumping all over my screen. I read about similar problems 2 years ago in another forum but I haven’t had any problems until this latest upgrade. What is the safest version to go back to to reverse these problems that microsoft can’t seem to fix??

  • odin theriault

So i found this article cause this morning my computer started freaking out. Turns on 10 seconds then boots over and over and over pls help! I am poor and cant bring it in to get repaired. It auto installed latest windows update this morning

  • whatjusthappened

2 of 3 computers won’t sleep -they shutdown and yes –we have reverted power to default settings, set them up again, and they still shut down. Clicking turn off hdd to never doesn’t stick; it reverts to 0. Go figure. Frustrating!

  • Matt Huan

The latest forced Windows 10 update (sometime mid-Dec 2019) really takes the cake. Now I cannot save my Photoshop files because “file not found”, right-clicking on items on my Desktop causes screen freezing or refreshing, and I can’t even delete a file properly now because it “Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)”, among other problems! I don’t expect having to go look up forums on how to troubleshoot all these petty but very basic flaws, but looks like I’ll have to do these from now on. Way to go, I thought updates were meant to be improvements! Yet another irate Windows customer

    • whatjusthappened

We ran into this and found it had created another user 005 (or something like that) on some of the computers, but not all. Check users and see if that is what happened. We just worked around for now. Will do fresh install when we have more time. Good luck!

twice now, I have fixed Win 10 connectivity issues, by changng the Power Management of my ethernet device to prevent them deciding to disconnect when Windows decides I should not continue to use the interrnet.

NOW, after updating overnight, WIndows has introduced another, well hidden, issue that causes my connection to fail at random intervals, with the useless troubleshooter failing to resolve or deicover the ussue, determined that my cabling is suspect which, by swapping it out, I know it is not.

This is only a Windows issue, as all my Android devices work perfectly, with no interruptions in connectivity.

Also, Windows STILL has not produced an update to allow my perfectly serviceable Dell PC to connect over WIFI.

  • Texas_Conservative_Mom

9-4-19 After the update last night, ALL of my files were gone. Over 45,000 pictures. I had to restore to the point before the update to get them all back. What the heck. Do I even need the update?

after windows 10 update this morning (4 Sep 2019) windows search function from start menu doesn’t function at all. Not sure what else is wrong as it is now a complete pain in the ass to navigate to the various apps and programs I need. Also very slow startup to the point I though that my fingerprint login function was borked as well.
Really angry with MS yet again – Windows 10 updates are a complete fiasco – i had to have 3 laptop rebuilds last year and 2 so far this year. This is a brand new top of the range laptop and i really don’t want anyone having to get under the bonnet this early in its life. My previous laptop was rebuilt to dual boot with Linux which saved my sanity on two calamitous W10 update failures but unfortunately I am tied to MS Excel otherwise I would have waved Windows goodbye for ever already

  • whitelikeme

Updated 8/31/19. Files are missing, programs won’t run, had to rebuild accounts and customizing in Outlook 2010. It is as if anything with any age to it or with file format issues was uninstalled and will have to be redone. No Camera, LiveCam device is gone, My system is Win 10 64-bit. System runs fine but is almost worthless.

windows updated automatically and now curser keeps going to start and up pops the start screen. This happens constantly and is driving me nuts. I have lots of work to do for my charity and it takes so long to keep resetting to my previous version of windows 10. This is how I am able to enter this text. No doubt overnight it will update automatically and I will have to reverse it again. HELP

Update on July 27 2019 made it impossible to get into windows. There is no box for a password or any other way to get into the program. I tried to get the Dell inspiron desktop to go to safe mode and could not find it. Microsoft should pay to have it fixed.

The 6-14-2019 windows 10 update, 64 bit started with no sound (little red x on the icon) and it appears the update has removed the drivers for audio 9 so stated in my review of the update), laptop troubleshooting reporting ‘no audio output device is installed’ and none of the old fixes work from previous updates. Worked thru HP support for previous issues just like this as well as HP troubleshooting and nothing works.

Have had a laptop for just over a month. This morning I saw a message asking if I wanted to install updates or delay. Needing to work, I selected a delay. Shortly after that I tried to start the Bash for Windows app. After a long delay, Windows said it had encountered an error and had to reboot. However, it stated it had encountered a problem rebooting. After a couple iterations of re-trying that, I went into “Advanced Options” and restored (to a save point from yesterday). However, same thing – attempting to reboot just let to a screen saying there was a problem, did I want to reboot or try Advanced Options. Suggestions?

one off the biggest problems is apps they are not properly ready.
Another is products that ship with windows, example groove.
A good example of a rubbish app.
It want’s internet access to show you stuff you don’t want ,, and last time I tried it, I couldn’t turn this function off.
Also it’s not as good as WMP. (which they are slowly making less useful by reemoving features).
Another the installed apps. Several cannot be uninstalled without more knowledge.
All apps should have an easy way to remove them.
It’s easy to write a 2000 word essay about the bad, but you would struggle to do the same about it’s good points.
IT may improve when they fully integrate windows with linux or even better take the best bits from all 3 and make a
    winlinmac operating system

14 hour’s after reaching 56% install of latest KB for Win 10 version 1703 to be followed (I presume) of update to 1709 after blocking version 1803 updates back in the Spring, get Acer logo + BIOS key’s, Windows logo then Welcome message IMMEDIATELY followed by Restarting. This goes non stop for 72-75 hour’s before pulling plug.
Acer AZ1620-EW30P with 1 TB SATA HD 4 GB DDR3 RAM All-in-One desktop. Showed some KB file Patch Tuesday along with an update to 1709. Wireless mouse & keyboard.
Have tried EVERY POSSIBLE FIX SO FAR. Acer tech had nothing new. So far no post online that small Android phone can find worked. Is no family can get help from. No friend’s with computer. Repair DVD & USB failed/erased. No exaggeration: tried EVERYTHING!! Is no way past initial Boot sequence. NO button combinations so far worked. BIOS can access but is setup to stop there. Not changed after disconnected inside’s including battery. No access to CMD let alone recovery so far. Not even sure if was KB or version 1709 update that stalled at 56% but 1000% SURE WAS NOT 1803 as was checked prior to hitting accept.
After initial wait of 14 hour’s after watching display of 56% installed, PC restarted on it’s own & just sat for next 14 hour’s showing only power light. Tried leaving alone after power reset & left it on for next 72-75 hour’s with no change.
Trying initial recovery step’s after powered back on gave me current state. NOW WHAT?!?

    • Andrew

Your BIOS could have potentially been doing an update, and when you turned it off you wipes its memory, now it doesn’t know what to do. Best advice is call up Acer, or whoever you have a warranty with (if you still have one) and get it sent off.

I have a new laptop for a class I am taking, got it brand new in April 2018. I was told to do the HP updates that appear on my computer where it has an HP logo, there is a ! and when I click on it, there is always updates awaiting. I did the updates today and now I can’t use my computer, it just keeps restarting and won’t go to the home page I used to do my class work on, I never used it for personal stuff, only for class, very simple. I did not want any viruses or anything getting in it, so I did not use it for anything but the class 3 times a week. After the updates today, it was a black screen, then restarts itself and spins for a long time, then a blue window and it keep on restarting, then a page came up saying; “Start up repair could not repair your pc” and I shut it off. I tried again later and the window finally said “Your PC ran into issues, we will automatically restart it for you” then it keep restarting many times…then a blue screen opens up and says “Recovery, It looks like windows did not load correctly” I need to do my class work and this is not good, this is a brand new computer. Now what do I do?

    • Andrew

Ring up whoever you bought it from, as you probably still have a warranty with them if you only got it in April, and send it off and get it fixed.

SIDE NOTE: There is no reason what so ever to do any of the HP upgrades, all they will do is clog your machine with junk (meaning over time you will run out of space on your HDD to save your class work onto, and slow down the running time of your computer as it will want to start all of the HP upgrades upon start of the machine, meaning longer boot times) that you will never use and its a way for HP to know what you are searching and where you are if you having ticked the boxes.

So yeah, if someone tells you to do a HP upgrade, ignore it.
If someone tells you to do a WINDOWS upgrade, then I suggest doing it, BUT first do some research on it, make sure it works well for everyone else first. You don’t want your windows to turn into a upgrade 1809 machine and completely fail.

I have SIX dead laptops, thanks to Win10 updates! Every time another update comes out, we lose another Elitebook (8440p, 8560w, 8570p, mainly) to the boot loop problem! WTF, Microsoft!? Add in the fact that MS took away “safe mode” with Win10, and I now have 6 boat anchors! Anyone have any ideas for reviving these corrupted machines?? Or any way to get MS to fix the machines they kill??

  • Catman9

my gateway windows 7 went out on me. I plan to have restored. I
love that laptop. tons of memory and dvd cd player recorders. I had
to go out a buy a cheap laptop for internet and email etc…it’s a Dell
and seems like a nice small laptop but has no memory except
for the garbage already installed which I uninstalled most and still
no memory and windows 10 keeps telling me I need space even
though I didn’t add any files and now update is giving me issues.
I haven’t had this thing but 2 weeks. it’s not the Dell. it’s windows 1o.
I hate that mcafee comes installed. I prefer windows defender but
I can’t get the damn thing uninstalled. I’m going to just pay to get
my old laptop restored which if I bought new would cost 1,ooo +
and had windows 7. windows 1o sucks.

  • Charles Lankiwicz

After my Windows 7 computer went south, I returned to my Windows 10 system two months ago. So far its working well; maybe Microsoft has finally got it together with these updates, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed every time I see an update notice.
One piece of advice that could be helpful is to let the updates do their thing no matter how long it takes; it can take an hour or more. Turning the computer off or attempting to interrupt it could cause problems. I may have done this in the past. Wait.

  • John Perry

My computer was fine when I went to bed then woke up to a blue screen asking me what keyboard I wanted. Choose USA and then a tiresome loop started. Took it finally to a tech repair service and it cost me 100.00 to fix it. SO THANKS A LOT MICROSOFT FOR COSTING ME $100.00. LEAVE my computers alone, or ask first.

  • Avril Nero Storm

YES THIS IS ME I KEEP GETTING THIS SCREEN ON MY LAPTOP

  • Avril Nero Storm

I updated last night before I went to bed. I go to get on in the morning and I cannot get on at all. It always takes me to a screen asking me about keyboards, I do so then it takes me to a screen that says to restart or other options, no matter what I do, I can’t get past that point.

  • Lau Laf

This is my issue right now and I am freaking out. We managed to get it back to the login screen, I forget which one of the options we chose, but we did restartr several times. It seems like its going now but it got stuck on “its taking a bit longer than expcted. please dont turn off your computer”. So I really dont know what to do, it has been stuck there like that for 20 minutes.

  • Pamm Larry

My computer died on Sunday after the “HELPFUL” update. I had to pay for a new hard drive. My computer is a little over one year old. Since you get to update without my permission and this is supposedly your property, then I want you top pay for the fix. This is expensive and a huge unnecessary pain redoing everything.

  • Caroline B Hall

I downloaded update last night and turned off the computer. This morning when I turned it on again, there was basically nothing on my computer which is a Dell Inspiron lap top that was running Windows 10 fine until now. Now literally nothing on my computer except recycle bin and icons the taskbar that there is no audio system. My computer is about 18 months old and no trouble until this. So much might be list:(

  • David Bailey

I have 2 external hard drives, they are both stuck at drive (D:) (D:) two drive letters. I go to disk management to fully clear them and than make a new drive letter. That’s suppose to work. But when I asign any drive letter backup settings still says (M:) (M:) two drives letters whatever I set it as. I do the disk management again and clean the hard drive external out, I put a new driver letter and it’s still double. WTF? This is crap Microsoft!

  • C L

My computer downloaded the most recent updates last night. Today, after two hours, it was unable to complete the installation of the updates. It is still locked up trying to restore a previous version of Windows 10. I have work I need to get done, and this is not helpful.

    • Yvonne Leist-creswell

The sane thing happened to me. I’ve had this computer only 5 months thus took it back to Best Buy concerning this problem. They are charging me $40 to install a new operating system Fortunately I hadn’t transferred any important information to this computer so will only be out stuff like my passwords.
Still, I think this is really shoddy work on the part of Microsoft, to have such a shoddy product that people like us are left in a lurch.

  • F CH

I did the upgrade last night on my notebook and it is totally chaos. The notebook runs over 10 hours (overnight) to download and update to 100% and then reboot. In the morning, it takes another few hours (I went out and back home) to continue install after reboot. When I back home again, the notebook is shutdown automatically and I thought it is finally completed. Then I turn it on again but it then said roll back to previous windows version, it takes about 10-15 minutes and suddenly the power is off. Oh my god, I keep pressing the power button but nothing happen. Seems I need to say goodbye to my notebook now. Could anybody tell me what happens?

  • MountainOceanKath

I wasn’t given much of an option to bypass today’s Windows 10 update. My computer is almost entirely crashed. It keeps “circling back’ to saying, “rollback” (which it won’t do), and finally the latest error is (on a black screen now, with only an icon of a recycle bin showing up): “Location is not available” Then the error says: “C:WINDOWSSystem32configDesktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you’re connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can’t be found, it might have been moved or deleted.”

SO… now what? I didn’t ask for this update – it just does it. I’ve tried turning off and restarting several times, and it always starts with wanting me to choose a keyboard language (Huh? Since when do I need to do that), and then whirls around telling me it’s going to help me in today’s online world, and then it’s making sure my apps are set to go, and to leave everything to them – and then that error message.

Needless to say, I can’t work since everything is on THAT system (and not on my laptop that I’m typing on now).

    • Dess Stefanova

I have the same problem with my laptop. I haven’t solved the problem so far…

      • MountainOceanKath

As of last night (Saturday, 5/20/18), they still hadn’t been able to fix it. They had been unable to get past the screens that I encountered. It sounded like they were making progress, but the tech guy didn’t sound quite as chipper and confident as he had on Friday. LOL. Hoping to hear something soon. I need to get back to work, and this “backup laptop” I’m on doesn’t have everything I need.

        • Dess Stefanova

I am suspecting that the update created a new partition on the hard and the computer is trying to load from it but it is lacking the desktop file… Tomorrow I will check it!

          • MountainOceanKath

I had that same error message about lacking the desktop file. I just heard back from Staples, and it appears that a number of people have had the same issue. In my case, they have to reset the whole system back to its factory settings. It’s unbelievable. I do hope that Microsoft is seeing these widespread problems, and addressing them for the future.

    • Lau Laf

Sounds like my problem. It takes me back to a blue screen to choose language and when i do it asks if I want to rollback or go to previous version. Nothing worked. My husband tried several things and restarted several times and it seemed to be going but now its stuck on the “its taking a bit longer than expcted. please dont turn off your computer” so i dont know what to do, but it has been on that screen for 25 minutes

  • Dave Mccoy

Automatic update created partition on hard drive that wasnt there before. Steam app no longer works and all saved games gone. Pathways to run programs disrupted. I have used Microsoft my whole life. This is unforgivable. I have assembled computers before, and have a fair working knowledge of PCs. After this experience on my desktop and now my laptop I will not use any more Microsoft products. I am furious, and my only recourse is to take my business elsewhere, and convince as many people as I can to do the same.

  • Liz Brynin

My Outlook account is not working! Takes hours to open, has not downloaded any emails since midday and keeps asking me to enter my password for the Imap server – I haven’t a clue what this is!
All in all, the whole PC seems to take almost twice as long to start up and to open programs.

  • Morgan Sharp

I have similar symptoms – all personalization was gone after update on 3/14/18. Start menu totally redesigned with dozens of MS things I don’t use. Worse – the explorer shortcuts to things like “Documents” and “Downloads” and “Music” are now pointing to c:usertempdocuments or c:usertempdownloads or c:usertempmusic. In other words – they are useless because the path should be c:userdocuments. Also, Chrome was REMOVED.
it is as if the whole machine were transformed to something else or someone else’s. All iTunes stuff lost, so my playlists and so forth are gone.

Very RUDE to remove programs and change everything around for an update. I’d been using Windows 10 for quite some time without running into this sort of nonsense.

MAR 18, 2018 — I am having problems with chrome opening certain sites, at some point. I does open about 7 pages automatically when I open ti, but when I try another websites, … if freezes… THEN a little box appears, WINDOWS 10 PROBLEM or error. something like that. THIS APP IS NOT RESPONDING. Do you want to close windows?… or CANCEL. I have playes with all options… but basically the screen goes “whitish” (cloudy)… and it just freezes. So have to long press the POWER buttom to kill windows. Then restart and it finally clears up and starts normally. I’ve done this 3 times today. I should have made a video of it. Next time I will

After reading some of the comments on this page. My suspicious nature is thinking ,is this a plan by Microsoft to make us all go out and spend up to £1000 on surface pro 2in1’s. Obviously not been thought through becauase there is an alternative OS out there called Android that causes virtually no problems at all. Microsoft now too big for it’s own good and ultimate survival. It’s had it’s day but now time to call it a day with them.

  • Gareth Jones

linx 1010 tablet with Win10 os. drivers uninstalled with no replacements. Downloading from microsoft store now impossible. Number of other drivers not working correctly as a direct result of compulsory win update dated 02/03/18. Micorosoft suuport say there vis a last option to fix any problems. I have another. I have not used Windows 10 since last year after having multiple problems with updates including losing my entire operating system and endless update loops. I am using my old Windows 7 computer with updates turned off.
If I ever use it Windows 10 again what I intended to do I think may be helpful to others: DO NOT CONNECT A WINDOWS 10 COMPUTER TO THE INTERNET UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, and even then only as long as you need to.
It cannot update if is not connected to the internet. This may be a good way for some to deal with the problem.

I had all the problems with windows 10 you could think about , Freezing screen , losing files , you name it i had the problem . The last straw for me was when it loaded 4 versions of windows 10 on my Desk Top and it just killed the computer completely. I had to take the Desk Top to a computer repair shop , they said it wasn’t worth fixing as it would have to have lots of repairs or new parts fitted , They said they are seeing more & more people have problems that can’t be fixed. So i sold everything to a person for scrap parts . I bought a Chrome Box off Amazon and had to change the printer as well as they only work with Google Cloud , i can honestly tell you now that i have had not 1 thing go wrong at all, no waiting around for updates or minutes or an hour to start up like it did before as i can get on the internet within 20 sec every single time. I wish i had done this some time ago as i was getting so angry and frustrated with windows 10 that i was ready to explode . Now hassle free and peaceful using the internet.

My post wasn’t approved because I used profanity. To repeat:-
My wife’s computer (HP Elitebook Folio) crashed after update on Monday evening, and is buggered! Was working fine before. Can’t get past black screen to uninstall or restore. Two days of struggling, and eventually have to pay for pro repair!!!!! About time Microsoft took some responsibility for this ridiculousness. EVIL B****RDS!

Got “creators update” forced to install because of the Windows. After installation, display is darker after every launch and I have to go to Nvidia panel to change display options for Nvidia drivers. When I tried to go back to previous version of windows Xbox live stopped working (can not log in) so I had to install back this irritating update. I do not know why this update installed some free games from windows store. Is anybody went back to previous version of windows and have Xbox live working?

Latest “creator” update (and no, I’m not a creator, I’m a DBA, I dont need any “creator” anything) broke my network drivers. All my other (non-windows devices) connect to my router without any issues. My 2500 Eur workstation laptop with Macro$oft win 10 cant connect. Resetting my Win 10 to the previous build as I type this on my Android smartphone..

Windows 10 is too invasive and in your face. The latest update happened while my computer was idle and closed some of my programs. I lost a lot of information between saves. I don’t even know what the update was for because it went and did it without my expressed consent.

I couldn’t be more livid right now… Also the UI still sucks. Keep pushing me to Linux, MS.

I have a shop and received 3 desktops today with no USB after update. I’ve only had a chance to look at one, luckily the board has older ps2 keyboard & mouse plugs so I was able to revert. I feel for machines without ps2 ports…

I managed to fix it by doing a system restore to before the windows update

Good call but for some reason that didn’t work for me.

    • Justin Allred

We’ve had two of our systems in the office that were affected. All others (so far) seem to be fine. One of the two I resolved by rolling back to before the update. This morning, the update had already redownloaded and reinstalled itself. Right back to no USB recognition period. So I rolled it back again, and disabled (delayed) the updates. At this point just praying that Microsoft releases a fix before it reinstalls AGAIN.
So darn sick of the “Updates whether you want them or not” BS! It’s insane, and ridiculous.

The other computer that suffered the same “no USB” issue, is far worse-off! Tried to roll back to the restore point prior to the update. System completed the “restore” and gave the standard completion message. Thought that system was fixed until it was restarted. Blue screen errors, Windows “attempting automatic repair”, windows cannot repair, now I’m starting from zero with that PC basically. Thank you Microsoft for yet another FORCED update that produces Bricks, and you accept NO responsibility, and refuse to allow us to TURN OFF THE UPDATES!

The last update caused my desktop to become unusable. My husband worked with support, and had to reload the whole system. 2 work days lost here, and it also killed several functions on my laptop, (sound and keyboard issues) and has slowed it down to the point it is not very useful. The updates load at times when you are held up from tasks that need to be done. How can I shut these off? Nearly every update has caused some issues, and added junk I didn’t want or need.

  • Bob Wallace

Keyboard isn’t working in outlook , just there though , headphones/speakers were disabled , fixed that.Start menu disappears , reappears after restart…and yeah the slow starts ,and black screens are an issue as well.

  • mmmgoodgravy

Let’s see: extremely slow launching of anything from the taskbar (like 5 seconds lag to open Win Explorer, for example; sporadic loss of windows key functionality, start menu, and alt+tab functionality; black desktops (no background pic loads); no search field/Cortana functionality; and finally: sometimes right clicking on desktop for Personalize options results in an error message saying Win 10 can’t find the program.

Totally calamity after the latest big creator update. All rock solid prior to. Problem is I don’t seem to have a restore point predating the update and am hesitant to reinstall Windows.

    • mmmgoodgravy

oh wait, one more: search functionality in Outlook 2016 totally lost. starts pulling up ancient hits first then stops. error message says search unavailable.

My laptop doesn’t start after Windows 10 updates on 14 Feb. I searched online for solutions and followed start-up repair, command, reset back to previous point but none of them worked.

Now I am going to bring it to professional tech guys to repair. I am scare of any update from Microsoft in a fear of causing me expenses for repair. I have been trying to fix it for over 12 hours and my frustration is equivalent to 10 mega ton nuke and I want to eliminate Microsoft from the face of the earth. You can imagine how angry I am. This is the second time having problems caused by Windows 10 updates.

Microsoft should stop Windows 10 and give Winfows 8 free download. It shouldn’t release any product before it matures or give guarantee that any expenses caused by such event will be paid by Microsoft.

F**k Bill Gate!! Clear your own company’s ethic before you do pityful charity work to make yourself look hood artificially.

    Hello everyone
Got update (however i did turn off automatic updates) took whole day to install, but after that everything works almost fine.
After restart it reset my resolution from HD to 1024×768.
Installed new Nvidia drivers and solved but there is a problem with darker display after every time i turn on the PC. After log in I always have to go to Nvidia driver settings and set monitor colour and brightness setting to Nvidia. It is getting irritating. I tried to reset the update but after that half of the programs didnt work properly so it forced me to stay on the new update. Anyone have any solution or have similar problem.
It is on PC not laptop.

  • dnarich

My computer has essentially frozen this evening Feb 13 2018 with a constantly running hard drive and excessively slow processing. No warning screen announcing the update, just awful performance.

I launched task manager…but it too was horribly slow, but I was finally able to click restart…then the warning came up that windows was updating and warned not to shut down.

Finally after about 10 minutes it said “restarting” but still took minutes to shut down and restart.

With luck, perhaps it will now work.

  • lizette

About a week ago a computer that was working perfectly (had been updated to Windows 10) – had windows come up with a “critical upgrade” – once it was done the operating system wouldn’t boot. Tried everything – finally had to take it to a repair place and she had it several days – only solution was to wipe the hard drive and totally reinstall. Today it was picked up and she said she has two more computers that suddenly stopped working – this is a TINY little town with two traffic lights total – SO – Microsoft has caused a major mess, cost people time, money, frustration and perhaps data loss and it’s strange I see nothing about them DOING anything about it! Not even sure what will happen to this computer if it now doesn’t have that update and Microsoft decides to apply it again?!

  • Sylvia64

Windows did an auto update last night (2/8/18) on my laptop and took forever. When PC starts, the screen is shaking, the start menu has disappeared, and each time I try to repair it with suggested Microsoft fix tool, I get an error message that says I don’t have permission. SO frustrating! Trying to troubleshoot it from work PC now. Any suggestions???

Window 10 is a fraud, everytime it does a upgrade (which I have no control of) on my Lenovo laptop it cannot be restarted, I have to uninstall everything, reinstall the operating system and reinstall programs and data, I am sick of this crap Microsoft, as you know this is going on, and have known since your windows 8 stuff up

Incoming emails: I can no longer click on items on the title page of a message; they don’t open to the information. Instead, clicking on anything takes me back to my mail. Same goes for not being able to view all of the text in an email thread. Clicking to view the full text of a message – either one that I wrote, or another person in the thread sent, just takes me back to the main page of my email.
If I go to SENT mail, the same thing happens.

Multiple issues that all trace back to the system being so clogged that it takes minutes for any program to launch and they freeze after a couple of minutes. Have rebooted multiple times, am now trying to update drivers in case that’s an issue, but the system is so slow that I have to wait 2 or 3 minutes after clicking on the start menu just to get the menu up. Then wait another 2 or 3 minutes after clicking on settings to launch that menu.

I have had 3 issues in the hours after this update. This is unusual. It seemed like a major update taking over an hour on my SSD drive high speed 1st gen. I7 desktop:

    2) WD TV Live Plus not working
    3) Printer stopped working

I did my latest updates for my hp pavilion desktop pc 570-p0xx and the update has caused the entire graphics system to display black as green and white and a bright light pink, all of the other colours are messed up as well. This effects everything from photos to video. I was able to fix it once by restoring an older version of Windows 10. I did the updates again and now I am back to the dam problem except there dose not seem to be any older versions of Windows 10 that I can revert to now. I need this fixed any help would be greatly appreciated

My computer won’t even boot. I was on it last night, no troubles at all last month. I go to turn it on today and the fans turn on for 1 second then turn right back off. Windows 10 latest update has been trying to automatically load itself without success for several days. The one that started last night continued its trek today but only succeeded in wiping my files, photos, installed programs, etc completely from my computer. No virus has caused this much havoc in the 30+ years I have been depending on computers.

My update hit this afternoon. Didn’t lose any files, but no internet to include mail. Some games have their graphics hosed and the windows button in the lower left is unusable. Website links that I want to email to others no longer works when I click File – Send – Link by email. Nothing happens, so I have to copy the link and paste it into the message area which is ridiculous when it worked before and what is the point of having “Send Link by email”?. Also, when I shut down the computer, SnagIt always shows that it is not closed where before the update I never had to go into SnagIt to close it beforehand. I also noticed that right before I would shut down windows, it was fully charged. when I start my computer again (and I shut my computer down when I am done with it for a day) it is showing at 57%. The computer is only about a year old and again, I did not have this problem prior to this last update. will add more problems when I either think of them or run across them while working in my computer.

HATE the latest Skype update from a few days ago! HATE HATE HATE it! I’ve been a SKype user and supporter since it’s birth and this version is completely user UNfriendly!

It wasn’t broke, now it’s broke. I HATE it!

I have a skype phone number and I love that I can talk with my friend on skype and call in another by phone to the call…. Not any more! Not a simple click to call, I have to create a group, you make me look for the member and if I am LUCKY I might actually get to click on the right entity to add to the call. Any call I have made, it comes up as missed. I don’t know whether I answered the call now or if I actually missed it. Skype opens 2 windows when I am on a call now and I can’t find where to click on the chat window. Today, my cell phone would ring with an incoming skype call and my desktop would not even react. Have to answer, hang up and call back on my desktop. What the hell is going on? I’ve been using skype for 15 years and I have NEVER been this frustrated with your app. I’ve gone from a SKype LOVE IT for 15 years to a Skype HATE it in exactly 2 days…WTF?

My husband’s webcam was completely disabled by the Dec 22nd update. Even though the Webcam is built into the computer, I cant find it in the device manager or any of the hardware, and the webcam app redirects me to a troubleshooter page. From what we can tell, we’d have to reinstall drivers, but we don’t even know what kind of camera we have to install them. We hope that the next round of updates can fix this, but until then, we need to buy a replacement.

As a technology consulting business we have clients in several states. Our clients are 95% Dell/Windows based shops. Currently we are dealing with DEAD computers, broken network shares, terminated drive mappings, lost printers, Office 365 activation issues, virtual machines down. All occurring immediately following an update, with the worst issues after a cumulative update (IE: Fall Creators update). One client is so frustrated they have are going to Mac (they are currently about 15% Mac with zero issues). Another client is giving new employees the option of Windows or IOS. Two out of three recent hires chose Mac. In my conversations with Microsoft I am basically told – we know, we are working on it, we apologize. If we want more information, Google. If we want help, create a Microsoft support ticket ($495.00). What a mess.

  • LISA DUCHESNAY

we have 2 laptops, 1 year old, and a new refurbished stand alone drive, all with Windows 10, problems started after the infamous December update, that took hours to process. Issues are multiple, we have modified to the metered settings which is preventing more updates for 2 out of 3, the 3rd laptop is still getting updates this week, 2 of them which instead of helping is undoing all the fixes we had already done for various apps and functions. Problems with email, as in NO emails at all, extremely slow and freeze to no function at all, even closing is not possible. Internet browsing is a nightmare. Totally unbelievable screwy Windows updates, which shows they have no idea what they are doing and how to go back to a working OS. Microsoft is finally venturing in areas they dont know how to handle, we are hostages to their incompetence and arrogance, forcing us to deal with their crappy software. Reaction, millions of customers are looking for an alternative, what choice do we have here????

I installed a custom menu that points a specific folder in the toolbar. I simply installed this custom menu using “New Toolbar” feature. It works well for MANY YEARS. But yesterday evening (2017 Dec 21th) Microsoft pushed an other W10 update and now the custom menu disappear each time I reboot my computer. So I need to reinstall it each time I reboot (it look W10 is clearing the toolbar at each startup). I use this custom menu every day, and the fact it is not working properly is highly annoying! With the upgrades to Windows 10 2 days ago… it fixed a few things (my Apps were inoperable on my PC), but now I have an annoying problem… when I hover my mouse over any of the icons pinned to my task bar…. it shows them as a thumbnail… but whichever one I last hovered over… it keeps it as a visible thumbnail… even though my cursor is elsewhere in the PC screen. I have to fiddle around a bit (moving my cursor back over the icon) before I get it to disappear. This happens all the time now. Very annoying.

    • Rick

Hi Gary, I had the same problem recently with Windows 10 pro
1907 update. Something to do with the way MS have rolled out permission
changes. I spent 3 days online with MS Support. The system exhibited systems
that caused an error when an app was selected. I found that you could run the
apps with ‘Run as Administrator’ but this is not ideal. Finally MS Support
created a new profile so my folders and files were left intact and this worked but I was left to configure all those little things that MS overlook. In addition and more by luck
rather than design, the new profile permission properties have been inherited by the
affected old profile and the old profile now works again 99% as should. Still, it
caused 3 days downtime and a second profile which takes up valuable disc space.
I’m waiting for a future fix to become available.

I recently updated my computer earlier this morning after coming home I then realized that I can’t go into my desktop I hit the enter key or sign in key and I immediately get kicked out after only staying on the desktop for at least a split second..

  • Tj

Windows 10 updated this morning – afterward it was locked up, so I rebooted. Since that I cannot use the computer – after I sign in at the login screen, it tries to bring up the desktop, I see it for a second, and then it reboots the desktop (not the computer, just the desktop). This happens over and over without end.

  • Jay Warren Anderson

Since the update my mouse doesn’t work right. It jumps across the screen. I play online games and I can hardly play them now. My laptop was fine and worked super well till this patch dropped and now I can’t do jack. It’s messed with my internet connection settings, doesn’t register my linksys USB, and as I stated above my mouse acts choppy. No telling what else it’s messed up. Guess I’ll find out…..

  • Kim Bakken Perales

I bought a wide screen monitor, but the resolution won’t adjust. I don’t know if it’s the monitor or the update of Windows 10 over the weekend that gave me problems where I didn’t have sound for a day. I really don’t know what it is. I installed the software and I’ve tried just about everything.

  • Kishan

Same problem as most people. Latest Windows 10 update has major issues. Programs or apps open and close instantly. need to run items in admin mode. Windows crashes.

  • David Manuel

After the update, I’m getting crashes in all my music players, I had to re-install my sound drivers, but that was just to get *any* sound to play. Getting really tired of MS. I want better options without being told I must buy a Mac.

  • Jerry Hunt

I also expected a small/short update. It lasted most of an hour. When finished, my PC was slower and my outlook2003 was inoperable. I’m now in the process of backup and reinstall. Thanks Microsoft.

    • Yinng

Me too. Will try to reload the Outlook install disk. Don’t know if music is ruined too, as others say.

      • Jerry Hunt

Was able to do a REPAIR on outlook(from the install disk) and then a registry change to get the links working.

  • Colin

How did you go back? My start button doesn’t work!

    • Tj

I am trying to go back now – I got into the restore function by going to the login screen. At the bottom right is a shutdown button. Click that. Then press on the SHIFT key while you press restart.

  • Colin

I have a Windows 7 system that has the same issue. I used the same alpha-numeric code as on the PC when the software reinstalled and still unable to activate, A royal mess!

  • Colin

What a royal mess! Mistakenly thought this was a quick update but it was anything but. After the PC rebooted, the following issues: 1) ALL files in the pictures and download directory disappeared. This includes software I bought for some programs; 2) Task bar is useless, 3) Start button is useless (click on it and nothing happens), 4) As a result of 3, unable to access any settings and can only access programs via Explorer, 5) All but a few desktop icons have disappeared, 6) Unable to open a Word document attachment. The system is crippled. Extremely frustrating and disappointing. The least MS could have done is to provide a warning as to what could potentially happen and give users the option of declining the update. How does MS get away with stuff like this is beyond me.

  • Adam

Since updating yesterday my computer is running really slowly takes ages to load everything, and video playback runs really glitchy like it’s in slow motion and first time I booted it up after the update I got this weird message box saying something about a missing file repeated on my screen literally a 1000 times, my screen was covered in them and they just kept popping up every 3 seconds as fast as I could close them. I rebooted the computer which sorted the issue luckily otherwise my computer would have been stuffed but surly what ever that was, wasn’t right

  • Stickman Stewart O’Brien

i have this same proplem any fixes

  • Mihai Turcu

After the update all the folders and files from desktop were gone, the taskbar is empty, all gmail settings are gone (bookmarks, passwords etc.). Eclipse settings are changed and plugins deleted (TestNG). I don’t know what improved, but a lot of things broke.

    • Colin

A lot of things? Seems like just about everything is broken!

Why does my computer keep saying Activate Windows on bottom left of screen even though i have been using pro for year and a half?

  • Duncan Hubbell

Every time I start my computer I do not have an internet connection. I have to go and uninstall the network connection adapter. I updated the latest driver, but that does not help.

  • mike

After update, screen was totally unreadable—looked like hippy t-shirt designs from the 60’s—went back to previous build, all is ok

  • Patricia Stoughton

On the computer, whether on FB or my online jigsaws or even mail–it shuts down and starts up again. This has been happening since the latest updates were installed. I thought I might need a new computer but now see many have this same problem. I thought it was a bot or something but I’m not alone in this. Since we have no choice but to get this stuff, why do we have to constantly hear, “Microsoft is working on it.”

  • Lizarr

I am having the same problem! I thought i was the only one. I hope someone knows how to fix it.

  • Lizarr

I just recently allowed the latest windows 10 update to install in my computer, and it broke my internet. I am now unable to acces any function of the internet, including doing very simple things like doing a search of my pc for a file in file explorer. When i try to open mycrosoft edge, it trys to connect with google which is my default search engine, but all i get is a message saying it “cant reach this page”. When i open up details, it tells me “the connection to this website was reset”, and gives me an error code: inet e download failure. I have also gotten a message saying “cant connect securely to this page”. Despite all this, my internet access tells me i am connected and secured. I have also tried using google chrome with similar results. From what i can tell, my computer now believes it is unsafe to connect with any web browser, search engine, website, etc. Or something like that. This is very frusturating and i have no idea what to do. Is there anything i can do? Please, if anyone knows anything, i would greately appreciate the help.

updated windows 10 yesterday (version 10.0.16299). Skype freezes…then blue screen…then windows auto reboots pc. Skype version 12.9.604.0. Impossible to ge through to Skype support. I finally got through to 2 different Windows 10 support agents who each gave me 2 different phone #s for Skype support. One took me right back to windows support (800) 936-5700 and the other # 855-425-3768 does not work.

  • laollis

Windows 10 update has made my computer extremely slow. Is there any kind of fix for it? I already tried to recover from an earlier date and that didn’t work. Didn’t have a date to go back to. Looks like Microsoft did this horrible update on purpose, and then they will extort money from everyone to get a better operating system. Windows 10 really SUCKS!

    • Gayle

      i agree 🙁

    • Adam

yeah same with mine, it running really slowly it’s annoying takes ages to boot up now used to take about 5 seconds

      • Kathryn Anderson

Same for me. Excruciatingly slow and unresponsive. Login bar doesn’t initiate automatically – only randomly if at all.

  • Gayle

never had any problems with my mouse until the Windows 10 update today, December 4, 2017. Now mouse pointer is jerky so that it doesn’t keep it with my clicking. Have uninstalled and reinstalled it, unplugged and replugged it – getting quite annoying. I HATE UPDATES!

    • Patricia Stoughton

Same thing here. I actually took the batteries out of the mouse for 30 minutes and it helped. So annoying.

  • ME

So frustrating. Since the November 2017 update, my computer will not wake up from sleep or hibernation. I have to press the on and off button several times to get the repair screen to go to Windows. I am not seeing anyone else having this problem. Windows will only load first time I click it on for the day.

    • Jeff

I have the same issue and I don’t know what to do…

    • Jason Earle

Same issue here. Also my facial recognition feature doesn’t work as the camera doesn’t start on start up.

  • Angela Vihlen Deans

Please just chat Microsoft and have them login to your computer. I just chatted them, they logged in and fixed my issues at 7 am Sunday morning. I have finals to study for that are on Tuesday, so just lost hours of time due to updates hijacking my computer and then I could not get it to turn and or boot up. Had a little pixelated square in the middle of the screen that would not go away, search bar did not work but they fixed it. Their timing is impeccable, Always a major “hose my computer” update right before a test. I have had them login for free many times to fix my computer and it works.

  • V B

Since the last update my screen is more bright than ever, my eyes hurt and there is no way to lower it. I tried every method posible, I verified the drivers, I run troubleshoot power, and, amazing!, everything is perfect! So what if 100% and 0% brightness is the same ??? Plugged in, on battery, with the battery saver on, nothing will make any difference. Help…

  • Kiwipels

The last update have made a new user account on my computer, and I can’t even switch over to my previous user account where I have all my files and pictures. I have lost all my desktop icons, and browser settings and bookmarks are all gone. I called Microsoft today, but they refused to help me. Microsoft is not interested in their customers, all they greed for is money. This really sucks!!

    • Mihai Turcu

      Same issues for me

  • Robert Hansen

Display resolution not the same, desktop background too bright. Mouse not tracking, jumping around the screen.

    • Arnauld Anin

Help! My computer is supposedly doing updates, but the circle has been spinning for just at an hour now. Will it ever finish? I need my computer up and running today for business!

  • Peter Adams

Since the recent Window 10 update, I have a white dotted horizontal line across the top of my screen plus my screen keeps flickering as if i am touching right hand side of mouse. The computer is virtually over taken the controls from me because i can do nothing as it opens up programs, deletes writing and flashing on screen with right hand of mouse actions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Peter Adams

  • Nancy Mosher

Can no longer download photos from camera or chip to pc.

    • Bonnie Martin

I had the same problem trying to download pic’s from my camera via an SD card. I had to go into settings, go to PRIVACY then CAMERA then click the ON BUTTON “LET APPS USE MY CAMERA HARDWARE”. Then my SD CARD READER worked as usual. Seems the update turned off alot of your settings and RESET some that has really messed up my entire system. My screen display for the DESKTOP and all apps are oversized for my monitor and I can’t access the right side of the screen to do anything (minimize, full screen, close feature). I have tried all the fixes I have found on different complaints but nothing works. The only thing I have not tried is the RESTORE to a previous date (to remove the updates) as some people say there is NO RESTORE POINT now. I’m ready to find another operating system as I’ve spent HOURS trying to get my PC/laptops settings back to what they were before the updates and it STILL doesn’t work properly. It has slowed down tremendously, too, as far as response time when it used to be lightning fast. Hope the info helps you get your pic’s to download. Just another HEADACHE and wasted time to fix THEIR SCREWIUPS to MY SYSTEm/PC’s.

  • Clarisse Cockrill

I just updated my computer and my screen is literally pixelated and blurry and the colors are all wrong. I have a nvida 980T graphics card, which is high, and the update screwed everything up.

  • barry ainsworth

Hi, the latest windows 10 update (Nov 17) to my HP laptop has made Lightroom 6 unstable (it crashes), my WiFi now only works on manual connect, and one of my two gmail accounts has disappeared (it still exists as I can access it on another device).

  • Tom Sessums

I spend somewhere between 5 and 8 hours a week waiting for Windows to fix itself, automatic repairs, after Windows 10 sits itself down all surprise-like. Never a welcome situation when I’m charting for my nursing job racing a deadline. Costs me a little pay here and there, but seriously, 2017, and Microsoft is still trying to figure out how to have a solid and stable operating system? My advice is that if you depend on your computer for professional reasons or your job, try or stick with Linux or Apple.

  • PatJ

latest update crashes my fairly recent computer. Accelerated today to the point that I can’t run Photoshop.
My BUSINESS is affected and I’m TICKED!!

  • David Anthony

By God I hate Microsoft! Updated Windows 10 today and half my programs stopped working and I had to reinstall them!

  • Rhonda George

With windows updates on November 23, 2017, I lost my manual sleep mode. it’s not in the drop down in the start bar anymore under the power button icon. Went into the Control Panel under the all the Power Settings and it’s missing everywhere in there as well. Did a system restore to the day of the update and it still didn’t return. It is now shutting down, instead of going sleep mode. I like to put my computer in sleep before I walk away, especially if I’m in the middle of something. Now it’s just shutting down instead of going to sleep and the Hibernate is set to Never.
I absolutely hate Windows 10 auto updates and that they force you to accept them! Any suggestions??

    • PBW

I had the same thing happen. Plus, the screen is now distorted (stretched horizontally).

      • Brooke Johnson

My screen size is crazy distorted! Absolutely buggered right now!

  • D_bel

my problems is about my recognicion camera, after everysingle update from windows 10, it appears that the camera wouldnt turn on correctly, is a pain in the ass, because all the drivers are up to date, however it keeps saying that there is something wrong going on, coulnt turn on the camera. Why do Microsoft decide to do this types of updates, without having test it on other computers, and just throwing it out for the costumers, please have a Good beta test for anysingle update that Microsoft have incoming.

My monitor is all screwed up. The desktop is stretched and magnified. I can adjust browser size with Control/scroll, no problem, but my monitor is back to 1995 proportions. It’s awful. Icons outside of the working area refuse to work. I’m so frustrated and really hating on Windows 10 yet again. I can understand why people go postal.

  • Grace United Methodist Church

    Same issue here.

  • Lorraine

I am having the same problem with my screen being stretched and font blurry this has only happened since windows did an update on Thursday evening 23 November 2017 and I cannot resolve this problem 🙁

  • Kristen Steele

It is a windows display driver issue. If you press the windows key and then the x key on your keyboard, then select “device manager” then the arrow beside “display adapters” right click on ATI… and select update driver, select the second option browse my computer… then let me pick… then the one that is not the same one 3 times and then install that one. Fixed the 3 computers at work that had the problem. I learned this from microsoft chat support employee this afternoon. Just before I wiped my computer to start again!

    • Amanda Lawrence

Husband had exactly the same problem, just tried this fix and it works a treat – Thanks

    • Grace United Methodist Church

      Thank you! That worked great!

    • Michelle

Thank you!! This worked for me as well 🙂

    • Seams Latasha

Just tried this but does not fit the stretched display. (Switched adapter to Microsoft Basic display Adapter) Any other suggestions?

      • KS

Instead of updating driver choose “Roll Back Driver”. That worked for me.

    • Frank

      It worked! Thanks.

    • Malcolm Mann

Hi I tried this and after 3 attempts the screen format is back to ” normal”‘.
      However I cannot access
Appearance and Personalisation in the control panel.
      Display
      Task bar and start menu
      Desktop gadgets
      These headings have all disappeared.
The screen saver itself has also ceased to function.
I remember now why I reverted to Win 7 on “my” computer during the win 10 trial!

    • Chandelyn Clifton Radley

OMG! Thank you SOOOOOO much! My stretched screen was driving me batty! This totally worked. Whew!

    • Brooke Johnson

THANKS SO MUCH! Worked for me too!

    • Laura Coello-Clark

Thank you so much, it worked, have several days trying to fix it wit System recover, my screen was looking like safe mode, and working very slow.

    • Gregory “Greg” Walker

      OMGoodness, this actually worked!

  • June Butler

Same with me. I tried system restore and several other fixes, but nothing worked to fix horizontally stretched and distorted screen display.

  • MIRIAM WALTON

I am having exactly the same problem. Windows update installed a new display driver at 12.00 this morning. We were watching a DVD at the time. We heard the two-tone sound you get when a new plug-and-play device is installed and then the screen first went small and then stretched and distorted. Nothing I have done seems to sort it and system restore will not work. Miriam

  • Malcolm Mann

since yesterday’s 10 upgrade I have same problem as Randy.
Screen images seem to be locked at 16:9 for all images, also screen saver locks on and can only be released by a Ctrl-alt-del and cancel input.

  • Randy Biallas

After update, unable to set monitor size back to higher rez. Tried 2 different monitors, max rez available now is only 1280×1024.

  • Jelleekisses

I did the update on the 23rd of November and when it was done, my external graphics card was missing. It was using the internal one and the recommended resolution was way off. I went into windows update and notice there was another one. When that update was done it fixed the graphics card issue, but all of a sudden all my icons on the taskbar were missing. I even noticed some of the apps and programs were missing from the start menu. They were still installed on the hard drive, but they were just not showing up. I got so frustrated that I just decided to do a system reset and let it erase files and everything. (I had them backup on another hard drive) Well, it seemed like everything was fixed, apps were back where they were suppose to be. It was recognizing my external graphics card again. It all looked good….Turn on my computer this morning and all of a sudden I notice as it was booting up to the login screen the resolution is off again, all big texts and icons. My screen flashes black and goes back to normal, flashes black again still normal. It’s like it doesnt read the external graphics card and then all of a sudden it notices it. This is the best update to date….. /s

  • Jackyson

Another problem that happened yesterday was the apps that appear would not go away and items on the task bar wouldn’t work. So far today that part seems Ok but it didn’t happen right away yesterday either.

    • Izzie

This is the problem I am having. I cannot access my windows menu or anything on my task bar. It is taking excessively long to start up and shut town as well.i have not had this problem in the past, but all day today I am unable to get o No one because my IE and Chrome links are on my task bar, my windows menu won’t open to let me access my app menu. It will not let me do ANYTHING. This update essentially Bricked my computer.

    • chip825

I am having the same problem in spades the same as Izzie ‘s comments below… my laptop is now a brick.

  • Jackyson

I installed windows 10 back when it was a free upgrade from 7 and this is the first real problem I have had.

  • Jackyson

Windows “updated” yesterday and changed my monitor driver that won’t allow me to select the recommended settings, this causes my screen to go wide and large, as matter of fact I reset it to a previous date and it fixed the problem, well while typing this it has once again updated to the wrong driver and I am back having the same issue. how can I stop windows from updating select drivers?

  • Andrea Antel

Me too, it updated or restarted without my prompt yesterday, 23rd Nov and my screen resolution magnified (icons and font types) and the display is smaller than the actual screen and stretched. It seems the settings don’t adapt to the actual hardware. None of the few resolution settings make a difference. I have an HDMI cable and will try with a normal cable.
I have a second computer with a normal cable and after the update, the icons and font types are ok but the display resolution (recommended) didn’t adapt to the actual screen size. The display size is smaller than the actual screen, but icons and fonts are fine. None of the resolution settings made a difference. What now?

  • Jan L

I had the same problems as Maja below. It took place at about 23:00 hrs CET on november 24 and my computer also lost the hdmi output signal. After having reinstalled to an aerlier time it looked OK but within short the update took place again with the same problems…

  • Jan L

I had the same problems as Maja below. At about 23:00 hrs CET on November 23 my screen first went small and thereafter went magnified. Also the output hdmi-signal was lost.
I reinstalled this morning to an earlier time and it looked OK but within short the update was there again and screwed up the screen again.

  • maja

At about 5:45 PM I heard a two tone beep, then my screen flashed and went to magnify mode. Just discovered there was an update for Windows 10 at the very same time. Happy Thanksgiving, Microsoft.

    • Scarlet

same thing happened, lost my hi res, i restored it to 11-21-17 restore point and it worked, but then it re-updated and it happened again…so i paused the updates…is there a fix for this yet?

  • John Burger

Nov. 22 update has screwed up my screen aspect ratios. Squares are now rectangles and pictures are short and fat. Three hours on line with Microsoft this morning with no solution. Upgrade crashed on the reboot and returned to the mess installed yesterday.

  • C Kaharabata

Ever since I updated my Windows 10, my pc has crashed about 3 – 4 time this month, and it has run into some huge problems yesterday. It now takes a ridiculously long time to log on, and the screen keeps freezing ever 15 – 20 seconds for about 5 seconds. This really doesn’t help because I have lots of homework to do and I can’t play games properly. For example, I would be watching something on Youtube (real simple right) but then the screen, mouse, keyboard and track pad all freeze. And all I can hear is the sound. And after this has happened a few time, it will then do the same thing, but everything freezes. So the first few times, its like only the monitor is having problems, but then the who computer just stops working. Already as I am writing this, my pc has frozen about 24 times. But it may also be because this pc is very old (8 – 9 years) but this has only started happening about the start of November, like the rest of you who are commenting on this site.

  • Samuel DiRocco

New update no longer recognizes my video card. Now my monitor is showing Generic PNP and has a very low resolution. I have updated all driver. (Most won’t let me update and say either it already is updated or a driver is not necessary.)

After last update my computer has lost functionality. Extremely slow. I wait forever for password entry screen as well as internet connection. task manager just circles with the circle of death. Every so often I get a blue screen that says we ran into a problem and need to restart

  • Christine Tong

Just did the update. Now I have problems with computer after going to sleep mode…on a wake-up, it has a crazy patterened screen, and software reset doesn’t work.
Also, if the computer was just left at the start screen (i.e. waiting for a pin to be entered), after returning from sleep mode, I get an error and the prompt asks me to restart the computer.
    What’s all this about?

  • Graham Kirkman

Can’t use the start button, can’t use task manager either and MS Office 365 not working so my working day is at a standstill. Don’t ya just love Microsoft…NOT!!!!

  • Matthieu Rastello

Everything was working normal until I closed the screen. Once I came back, I typed my password correctly, it wouldn’t log in, the code pin, same even with my fingerprints I couldn’t get in my laptop. It says that a problem happened (code : 0x80070032). Windows advise me to restart the computer to see if the problem goes away. Obviously it doesn’t work… F*ck Microsoft

After successfully installed the new updates on 18 Nov my Kaspersky failed to launch. Then the start button, menu and internet connections failed to respond. In the background that round blue circle kept going without stopping like forever. Tried the Ctr Although Del command but to no avail. Have to force stop it using the off button several times. Task bar icons not working and cant get into settings to uninstall.

After my Windows 10 was updated on Nov. 17, I tried to watch an event on watchespn.com streaming video. I have done this routinely for the last six months. The HDMI image on the TV was too large. I tried to re-size it using the “Pojection” selection on the “Settings” panel but only suceeded in loosing the image on my PC and still could not re-size the HDMI image. Now, whenever I connect the HDMI cable to the PC. I loose the PC image. I can get it back when I disconnect the HDMI cable but I can’t get an image on both PC and TV simultaneously. Thanks a lot Microsoft! Don’t you guys test these updates before they’re released? Thanks to this update I’ve lost my ability to video stream!!!

Since the latest Windows 10 Update, I am having problems sending e-cards through the Jackie Lawson site. I have started having these problems since the end of October and even after the “Fix”, I still can’t send my e-card…

  • Hilary Oldfield

Since my Windows Update, I can’t send my e-cards though my Jackie Lawson site… I have never had this problem before and even after the “Fix”, I still can’t send my e-cards… 🙁

  • John McGregor

I keep getting the pop up asking if I wanted to turn on sticky keys, I am not even at my computer and it happens. Quite a lot.

    • Leanne Smith

Maybe a malfunction in the keyboard?

      • John McGregor

I doubt it, I will clean it and see if it continues. I would hate to get another keyboard just to see if that is the problem and it not be it.

  • Tej “Kalthi” Theophilus

My Hp laptop’s keyboard and touch-pad stopped working after my pc’s windows 10 update is completed. And finally I got recovered by restoring to the previous version by Recovering settings.

    • Alexander De Winter

I have the same problem on my lenovo laptop. How exactly did you restore windows to a previous version ?

      • V B

After 2 days of enduring the screen blazing at 100% brightness, I also went back to the previous version. Go to Settings – Update and Security – Recovery and choose previous version.

  • Adrienne S

Since last windows 10 update my HP desktop shuts down after sleep mode and can’t wake up. Have to physically power off and on several times. How to fix?

  • Beatrice Krummholz

I selected shutdown and update yesterday afternoon, and when we turned the computer back on it started to install the update, but after a short time (15 or 20 minutes) it went black with no apparent hard drive activity. Left overnight, it went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, back to the blank screen (still no hard drive action). I’ve done 8 hard shutdowns (which sometimes inspires windows to revert to the previous version), so far no luck. The logo comes up, the dots spin for maybe a minute, then blank..

    • Donald Zorman

I am having the same issue.

    1709 Creator upgrade = 100% Useless
I have now spent 24 hours removing every single trace of Nero from my system registry, yet the upgrade continually asks me to remove Nero Burning Rom and will proceed no further.
    Useless upgrade.

  • disconnected

Worst system upgrade EVER. My firm upgraded us a few months ago and since then I call our help desk about once a day. Terrible product. I can’t believe something with so many bugs was rolled out to the public. #hugyourmactoday

  • Christina Moseley

Installed the Fall update, and now every time I wake my computer from sleep, my computer seems to crash. The screen flashes with vertical lines, and I have to reset it every, single time. Tried to uninstall the update, but it seems that you can’t uninstall the new Windows Defender Security Suite, which shut down my own antivirus, and I had to uninstall and reinstall that as well. Didn’t fix the crash issue when my computer goes to sleep either. My computer is now very slow and takes forever to boot.

I just update the new vision yesterday(3Nov17) and now I can’t login my account, I tried every password but still cannot… What Should i do?

  • Randall Brown

My windows 10 was installed on Nov 1 and now my face recognition does not work and i have to sign into my laptop 2 times to get in. I didn’t like the ‘friends’ installation on my bar and i seemed to have slowed down in speed. NICE JOB MICROSOFT!

  • Steve Howard

I had the black screen and endless circle of dots following the windows update. I eventually turned off the laptop and on the restart had a red screen with an update 35% message. It ran through and eventually concluded there is a problem and reinstalled the previous version. Job done
    Sort of.

just had the update on mine last week it updated and ruined my graphics this time just now todays date …november 2nd 2017 another one that took ages its ruined my sound very expensive gaming pc now broken i wish i could go back to windows 7 uk – i now have an icon near my start bar with something called people on it

  • Isabel C. Rosado

The new update totally sucks. Lost my audio and now the apps wont work it takes too long to think.

  • Kayla Lynn Brady

Updated a few days with Fall update, and loved what I saw! However, today (11/1) I am suddenly unable to access anything through my taskbar or desktop. I’m not even able to bring up task manager to see what’s causing the issue. Restarting doesn’t help, either. The only new install IS that Update..

Edit: It seems to be a verrrry long delay, since Google Chrome FINALLY opened on my screen a while after I tried opening it and left it alone.

    • Roger

Yes I have had similar since yesterday. The taskbar seems to be partly frozen – some items respond others don’t. Main problem has been unable to open Windows Mail, just doesn’t respond. Have restarted three times and now has started working normally. This all began after the new update last week. I am also using Chrome. Will keep updated on this problem .

  • Steve Howard

Followed the shut down and update request on my 2014 yoga 2 13 laptop – now had black screen with the small ring of dots going around for hours so far. Help please.

    • James

I’ve got the same happening today. Did yours finally work?

    • Steve Howard

Hi. You could try turning it off (ie. hold in the power button for a few seconds) and then power on. It might faff about a bit and eventually auto install the previous version like it did on mine.

  • Ann Whicker

I turned my laptop on at 11.35am today, and since then it’s been upgrading, three times its gone to black background with my icons on it tells me that there is a problem with some programs. I at first and second just put X, then 2nd time I pressed ok and in each instant goes straight back to the “Hi we are updating this may take several minutes” it’s now 14.26 and still upgrading…… Do I stop it? Help please.

  • Joshua Gomes

My computer has been crashing much much more often since the update on the October the 31st. I usually would get the blue screen every couple days or so. Today alone, I have gotten it at least 6 times.

  • Ged Kenney

My game stuttering is worse after the fall update, along with browsers ceasing to respond, and other performance issues.

  • Lynn Hankey

This thing is driving me insane. I can NOT get it to update. It goes thru all the process’s and after about two hours of updating, evaluating etc etc just when you think it is going to work it ends up saying ERROR. Something went wrong, grrr. Error 0xc1900200
Look that up on support page and it says system needs update DUH!!!!

  • Dario R Melkuhn

My system did an update yesterday which looked like it was a major update. after 12 hours it gave me a blank screen then after 5 mins turned off. When I restarted I ended up with a message update failed to complete restart update. After several attempts with the same result I tried to do a system restore only to find out it had deleted all of my restore points. I tried to do a reset with the same end result. I am now on my 3rd attempt to reset which from the looks is going to give me the same failed result. It does look like I am going to have to start from scratch again and try and do a complete clean install which will take me the best part of the week to rebuild the system. I have been up all night and am well and truly peed off

  • Bob Pearson

W10 Fall Creators Update happened last night, and it appears to have wiped out my Excel 2013 and Word 2013 files. The programs are still intact, but the files don’t show in Explorer.

I have Office 365 and Outlook will not send or receive. New Support Tool doesn’t work. Outlook crashes. I am considering restoring to the point before the update! Want to make sure that it would help.

  • Bev Frey

Update has completely blocked me out. I’ve tried all possible restores and nothing works. Help! I’m in a continuous loop!

  • Judy S

I did the update 3 days ago which took forever as it kept freezing. After the restart most of the apps had disappeared or were unresponsive on the Start screen. Programmes weren’t listed either. Had to Restore which luckily worked. Not good enough. !!

  • Judy S

Took ages to do the latest update. Then all my apps disappeared from the start screen or were unresponsive. Had to Restore which worked. Don’t want this to happen again.

  • David Hoad

i just did update now task bar icons not working and cant get into settings to uninstall

  • Jim Cooper

I did the update and now some of my music has “disappeared”..playing Groove I can still access some of them. What now.?

  • PR

On a weekly basis I get these pop-up “interruptions“ requesting a shut down to update. I do that, but when the update is loading the process stops at about 85% completed. Then a black screen whh even you let everything go for several hours, nothing occurs. Ultimately I have to mannually shut down the computer, which then restores the previous version. This is an absolute waste of time. I guess the most annoying is that there are no LOCAL telephone numbers to contact and try to fix the problem (I want local service from someone in North America, with whom the English language will not be a problem). I don’t know how Microsoft can get away with such poor service, and yet have a virtual monopoly. Isn’ it time to contact our rpresentatives and demand for action. Isn’t time for a statup company to appear on the scene, and offer a platform that works with Office without the crappy product AND service of Microsoft ?

  • Peter Haas

My problem is that right-click context menus are appearing everywhere all the time, unwanted, and the mouse seems generally crappy. I even bought a new mouse, thinking that was the problem. HELP!

  • Pauline Smith

I turned my laptop on this morning only for it to start updating which it took over an hour to do and since it finished I find bluestacks will not work neither can I download anything. Not music not games not even anti virus software. Come on Bill, WTF??????

  • Martin Sharpe

It took 31 attempts to install update 1703 on my desktop. Only succeeded in the end because i created a new user profile, deleted my old profile and did a clean reinstall of Windows 10. However now have intermittent wifi issues and some programs like Edge stop working. Just in case I have a hardware issue I tried my seldom used laptop. After booting it wanted to update to win10 1607. Foolishly i let it. Could i have stopped it? Anyway now Edge goes unresponsive as does System App. I now have two flakey computers and about 100 wasted hours. Microsoft’s game plan is to get win 10 to a paid subscription service. Ubuntu, Apple or new entrant are going to pickup some disillusioned Microsoft customers.

  • Ann Kohlman

Updated 3 hours ago it shutdown after install. I restarted computer because I had to check something, and it won’t start. It is stuck on start up screen. 3 hours later will not start still. I am so worried i will lose everything because I haven’t saved in awhile. What should I do? Will not start…..I can’t afford to lose my computer. I can not afford a new one. Hope it can be fixed. I was looking up receipes turned off it updates. So I chose update n turn off. It did but OMG, it won’t load.

  • Roderick Walker

Ever since this recent update, the wired keyboard and mouse stop working right after I logon to the computer. I can’t restore a backup because I don’t have mouse and keyboard access. I can’t check for hardware issues because I don’t have mouse and keyboard access. I used to hate Apple products, but they never have these problems…

    • Doug

I had a similar problem this morning (Sunday, Oct 8th) after getting the latest Windows update. I could move the pointer using the built in touch pad, but I could not select anything with it. In an attempt to use another pointing device, I tried plugging in a USB mouse, and that worked fine. So I was then able to navigate to the Mouse section of Control Panel and looked at the settings for the touch pad. For some reason, the “Tapping” option was not checked. When I checked it, the touch pad worked again. Ponderous.

    • Pauline Smith

Try using your tab button to navigate round your desktop/page and this will highlight your programmes etc one after another then use enter, to access your menu for control panel it used to be alt+s for start but whether this still works or is another handy tool removed by windows so we have to pay for repairs I’m unsure

  • Darren Hill

Figured out the problem (for me anyway). You need to run bios setup and make sure your boot drive is the correct drive. Upon updating, windows changed my boot drive from my solid state which houses my op system to my HDD I use for pictures and things. Hope this helps!

  • Charles Lankiwicz

My computer is in an endless update loop: every time I turn it on it gives me a message that the latest update did not take. But when I shut down it attempts to load the update and never succeeds. I tried the repair software but it did not work. Actually, if this keeps up, its good because I will not be able to install any more updates!
Installing prior updates has caused my screen resolution to go to hell with the “widescreen” problem. And two weeks ago my hard drive was fried by an update; I had to re-install windows and loose my applications in the process to get windows back.
Windows says that one of the purposes of the updates is to prevent malicious software from damaging the computer; The malicious software I have encountered is Windows Update!
I thought that Windows 8 was bad, but at least the harmful updates could be shut off using it. Right now we have to keep the army of programmers in Microsoft a reason to earn their pay by generating these harmful and useless updates.
I am now using my old Vista computer and am very happy that I kept it and did not “upgrade” my windows 7 backup computer.
Though Microsoft is congratulating itself for Windows 10, I feel that they have just laid another egg.

  • James G. White

My computer just cycles and states it has to Repair and hangs then cycles over and over again

    • Joe Rieger

      Same here

      • James G. White

And it continues after 5 days now

        • Joe Rieger

I did a restore point prior to the update and now at least my laptop will boot up.

          • James G. White

Your the lucky on as you.at least boot up! I have tried every Restore, with no success!

It continues in this vicious cycle!

Once again I am surprised Microsoft is still in business!!!

    • James G. White

I have tried 6 different Restore Points but they do not work either so I am screwed and cannot get into my laptop!!!

      Microsoft continues to SUCK!!!

    • Conrad

Mine gets to log in and freezes or sometimes it just freezes before the login screen. It won’t even boot from the CD Rom even though I tell it to.

  • guest

updated september 26 2017 and now my pictures, data and documents are gone. my pc is gone to get restored at a high cost to me. I need my pc for business and right now i’m dealing with anxiety caused by an update. not happy.

  • David Meyer

Laptop keeps updating. (Update and close down or update and restart when closing down) then after 100% complete message another message saying unable to install so undoing changes. Takes my laptop out for 20 – 30 minutes each time.

  • julie

my work laptop updated windows 10 and has killed my start up menu, and deleted everything in some of my files , restored it to an earlier date but still the same , have to go round the world to just get into any files it hasnt wiped clean , not happy at all. hate windows 10

  • All Down Hill

I’m having to hit Ctrl, alt, del every five minutes or so to un-freeze my laptop and a re-boot every hour or so. Mostly with Outlook and Excel. Any suggestions.

  • Cheri Puckett

After the update 2 days ago (9-13-17) my new laptop takes 7 minutes to boot after the login screen. But I see there are no answers forthcoming from MS. What a piece of crap this software is.

    • Matthew T. O’Driscoll

Same here. I wound up restoring to the point prior to the update. That helped the boot time, but Win10 is still acting weird after bootup and is saying the restore was not 100%. I may wind up reinstalling Win10

  • Paul Selles

Sept 15 W10 update left my PC screen black an blank. Cpu seems to search, like a dog trying to catch its tail, no end to it! What do I do?? I notice I’m not the only victim.
What’s the answer Windows/Microsoft? I can’t get to ‘Support’ online. I sent this from my Samsung Pro.

    • Matthew T. O’Driscoll

Power off/on. At the Login screen, hold down the SHIFT key while selecting Restart from the Power icon on the right side. This will restart Win10 into a screen that lets you pick from several SAFE modes. Under Advanced menu, select the Restore option and it will restore Windows to the point just before this latest update. Mostly worked for me… In that same list, you can chose to refresh the OS, which will keep all your data, but you lose all your applications. You’ll have to re-install those. I may try that tonight.

  • Nick Danger

I came home to find my system cycling, and I cannot get the boot to finish. Any suggestions? I tried to roll back to a restore point, but can’t even access that reliably.

  • angry customer

win 10 is shit, I want my win 7 back.

  • D. Barrett

The best way to fix MICROSOFT Windows 10 is to reinstall Windows 7.
It is beginning to look like your fall update next month will likely be worse than Windows 10 is currently . . .

  • Chris

I cannot access Microsoft Edge. Everything is working so slowly.

  • Darrel in Kelowna

In retrospect, I was foolish to post here for help. Looking down the list, I see that no one has ever received any help.

    • Kevin Perry

Yeah absolutely pointless. Must be a better site somewhere that can actually give us answers. Microsoft should be getting their shit together too.

    • Nick Danger

Fucking MS is filled with useless H-1Bs who crap in the fields and take that crap in to set up MS windows updates.

  • Sally Hall

have just finished update now my screen rotation is f***ed. i keep putting it right but it returns back to being on its side every new page and when i close internet. i am typing this with my laptop on its side and getting seriously hacked off in the process. what has microsoft done! i suppose i should be happy that it has not destroyed my laptop completely, but i cannot work like this. also touch screen seems less responsive and mouse doesn’t know where to go!

  • Darrel in Kelowna

Another mandatory update on 02 August, 2017 has left Windows 10 freezing up at, or near, log-in. I’ve had to force shut-down (by holding down the power button) several times and am only able to use it now by doing a system recovery to before the last update. However, upon turning off the computer by normal means, the update is re-installed and I’m left with it freezing when turned back on.

  • Kevin Perry

I need help with a windows 10 update problem. Can I stop update 1703 from trying to automatically install? Because I live in a remote area, internet is very costly for a small amount of data. Every time I go online the update continuously tries to install using up this data at an incredible rate. It’s costing me a small fortune.

  • J Reilly

Most recent windows 10 update has some problem. My laptop won’t stop crashing. Idk what to do. I uninstalled the updates. And it keeps crashing on restart. And I end up having to restore. Should I just reset it and keep my files or?

  • Oneistheloneliestnumber

I give up. Windows 10 free upgrade never did work.
Leaving the majority of users on legacy hardware out in the cold.
I found my own solution and none of it starts or ends with anything Microsoft.

  • Why

I don’t want my navigation settings changed. Two examples… I can’t click on the tabs on the desktop toolbar to open and close windows anymore – what the heck? When I open a compose it goes to full screen now – I want it small screen. How are we supposed to know who did this, our recourse and what else was done. I received no update notification on these changes.
