Tesco Groceries website down? Problems today

Tesco has become one of the most popular websites online when it comes to shopping for electronics, toys, household goods and basically everything else other than food.

Tesco offers it all in today’s world and with the best prices compared to high street competitors. When Tesco runs promotions such as Clubcard boost, Toy Sales and Black Friday events, Tesco groceries website problems can occur frequently with users unable to log into the website.

    Tesco website has been impossibly slow for me in London for 3 days now 01 March 2021.
    I sign in (takes 2 mins) but then cannot change my order, page keeps trying to re-load (spinning circle displayed) and after about 5 minutes it freezes (does not repond to mouse clicks).
    I have cleared all browsing data and cookies, tried other browsers and times but no difference.
    All other websites are fine (including Sainsburys groceries).
    Why don’t they just admit they’ve got problems, rather than keeping us in the dark?

        Your browsing data is not the cookies. go to google, click More, then History and then choose which data to delete. This may be slightly different if you have a different browser but will be similar.

          Site was running very slow, few pictures of products coming up on the Windows 10 laptop, but the old Win7 desktop was working fine ? Thanks for the tip Lin, tried clearing the browsing data which inproved it slightly on the laptop but still having problems.

    If you keep getting the 500 error message after an attempted purchase or change to your basket try this trick. Go to your settings in your browser and clear your browsing data for the last hour. Then try again.
    At the beginning of the pandemic I spent hours trying to resolve this, plus several phone calls. I’d tried 50 times to get my payment through before I lost my slot, no luck. The 3rd person I spoke to suggested this tip. I just had the same issue again now and I tried it clearing the browsing history and it worked a treat.

    Error 500 on payment page and blocked. This happened early this morning and i phoned Tesco who tried helping. Tried different browsers and my pc in stead of the tablets i use but still could not save and pay. A friendly lady called to check which order was blocked. She emailed the IT Dept and they sorted it out within a few hours. I was STUNNED since it took six days in November when this happened first time. Back to normal and very happy with fast service.

    Has anyone found a problem with the Tesco order confirmation layout? My confirmations are suddenly coming through in double spacing and takes 11 pages rather than the usual 3. They have said it’s my printer that I’ve change the settings on (which I definitely have not), but it’s odd that I shop with Waitrose and Morrisons, have changed nothing and it’s only Tesco since they “updated” their website that I have the problem with……

    Same problem with Tesco 3rd December Tried to amend order due 4th December but could not. Luckily got Asda slot for Saturday (cost £7)
    so cancelled Tesco and emailed them at about noon. Had phone call early evening from pleasant lady apologizing and said she had passed it to technical support and would employ me with further info.

    I spent so much time today adding items into trolley but then had trouble checking out later on. I tried so many different ways and tried on more than one different device also. I did notice that the “book a slot” kept showing which I thought was odd. In the end I went to “my orders” and clicked “make changes” and the 90 products I had added, just disappeared in front of my own eyes..I almost wept! I have spent the last hour adding everything back and this time it worked, checked out within minutes to spare! This is the second time that this has happened to me within the last few weeks. Very foolishly I’d forgotten about the previous time, until it happened again! Seriously going off Tesco!

    Payment problems just call customer service. I had the same problem and you must explain tge problem. An 0800 number. It department sorted it but IT TOOK FIVE DAYS. working well now

        I have found a solution and gor my order accepted. No thanks to Tesco – their IVR system takes you through the system the cuts you off. What I did was this. Before you his save changes, CHECK YOUR DELIVERY SLOT and accept it again. Then it should allow you to save changes

    I was just finished amending my order when I got kicked off the site. I’ve not been able to log in since. Got asked the questions about which browser I’m using etc. I’ve tried 3 browsers, deleted cookies, restarted my laptop twice, tried another laptop, tried the app, tried private browsing. Nothing helps. It’s not the first time I’ve had issues. If Tesco don’t fix this in time then I’m stuck with a previous shopping basket. I always save a previous shopping basket when I book a slot and amend it later. Right now I’ve no idea what I’m going to get if I can’t access my shopping today. Just got a message saying that several customers have this issue and they are trying to fix it.

( 500 ) ” contacted tesco customer service got asked the usual questions ” what browser are you using , i use either Google Chrome or Windows Edge anyway after a rather heated discussion was advised i would be contacted in 24 hours .

      Same payment problem since Saturday. Phoned tesco customer service sunday and they reported this error 500 to their IT Department in India. Called back monday and had not heard anything. Same rubbish answer yesterday and today! Stuck. Tried private browsing and various browsers nothing works. Rubbish service not impressed order for saturday delivery not finished and will only receive some of my products since i cannot add and pay. Angry

    got in now, but no calendar past 3 December. Disgrace. Just managed to get an xmas slot with Asda. Not how to run a company Tesco and no priority for people in vulnerable category (I am not but feel for those that are elderly or with conditions and not as used to using technology as some of us)

    Absolutely shameful. Started queuing at 6.50 AM. At 9.10 AM, also logged into queue on 3 x other devices (2 x PCs + additional smartphone). At 9.20 AM, got onto bookings ON ONE OF THESE OTHER DEVICES – smartphone. Was able to book only 20th (nothing further) – North Norfolk. 2 minutes later, one of the PCs connected to booking page. At this stage, the initial device WAS STILL HELD IN A QUEUE. The 20th had fully booked in seconds following.

    just looked on isitdownrightnow for tesco and it says the servers down. also some people are closing the app and re opening it and getting on. seems the app is prioritising newer activations. tried it ….didnt work. This is worse than first lockdown when we had to be online at midnight to get the slots we needed.

    Accessed online order (from Manchester) to make amendment and received “Sorry, we had a problem processing your payment. This may be a short-term issue. You can try re-entering your card details below” Have tried a number of cards, each card is verified and then same error message is returned. Obviously a Tesco Transaction Gateway problem, which could be alleviated by announcing their problem on their site.

    I amended my next order this morning, but when I went online to order one more item, the trolley
    contained items I had ordered in the past but not the items I had checked out this morning. I had to empty the trolley and start from scratch. I assume a computer glitch at Tesco, which I have usually found very reliable.

    Massive probs with Tesco page earlier. Lots of glitches with stuff not been added to basket, then error pages. I managed to save my items and go through the order process but with only half my order done. I just went and amended it with the rest of my items and thankfully all good now.

    Rang tesco customer service was told they are having problems with chrome. Said download safari on my android I phone! Well safari is just supported by Apple/Ios & can endanger android system & read memory card details. Think Tesco are NOT able to cope with demand SO using that excuse to get rid of customers!!!!     Finally sorted. Unable to place an order since Friday PM as unable to check out with a Tesco debit card! Lost about 6 slots in total and spent about 30 mins on the phone trying to speak to someone.     Tesco’s have introduced rationing. If you have more than a certain number of some items, eg canned fish which have not yet been added to the “no bulk buy” list, your checkout will fail with the “sorry we had a problem processing your payment”. Reduce items and try again…

    really getting stressed – i booked my slot last week and had made quite a few changes and additions – at 7.30am today i had confirmation of my delivery tomorrow and all was well – ive got till 11.46 tonight to make changes and at lunchtime i had a few more items to add but the error 500 came up – eventually phoned customer service and apparently their IT guys now have my complaint on escalation but there is no confirmation i will get my order tomorrow as it wont let me check out – im disabled with mobility issues and also have a fractured foot which wont heal – so really is a big struggle if i have to go out and shop. no parking places at my local tesco and the large one is too large to walk around – i simply wont manage! i hope they fix this before my time expires later this evening. not happy as i had another very messed up order a few weeks ago where they sent me on a wild goose chase in baking heat with no drinks or medication with me and still didnt get my order.

    Has anyone else’s favourite hearts disappeared this week? Usually when an item has been bought before there is a red heart next to it, so you know out of all the items available which one you prefer. The hearts have vanished for me! Viewed the site through a different browser on my phone rather than my laptop and still no favourite hearts. Going to take much longer to do my shop now :-/

    My shopping lists have also vanished this week. I haven’t been able to change them or add to them for 4 years now but they were still great for booking a slot.

    The ‘Usuals’ list option is pants. I buy milk every week and it’s not on my ‘things I buy often’ but some fish I only bought once is there!

    UPDATE – just spoke to tescos customer service and they have changed the cut off and amendment time to 11:45pm the night before so if you’ve added anything in your basket after then it won’t update or accept the payment.

    These types of outages are unacceptable for such a large company making massive profits. I can’t change my order or check the status of it, or even if it will arrive at all. If Tesco’s online business is so big it should invest in better datacentres and infrastructure to ensure it keeps running. Their servers are overloaded and they’ve had problems like this previously at busy times. Amazon never goes down – why? They have built solid, bulletproof datacentres that run like clockwork. More investment needed Tesco – I’m going back to Ocado. Another gripe – the shopping experience on the Tesco site is so slow – I expect at least at total of 10 minutes of ‘buffer face’ in a typical hour long online shop.

    Every week the site is getting slower and slower. I’ve just tried to add one item to my current order and it’s taken over 15 minutes. The time it takes to do an online shop is nearly as long as a physical shop. If it doesn’t improve, I’ll have to change supplier which is s shame because I’m happy with the service and the groceries.     Talking about Tesco groceries site here but just wanted to rant somewhere about the new website they introduced a few months ago. Absolutely awful and I wish they’d go back to the old one which I had no issues with. On one of the favorites / usuals pages (can’t remember which) all the items I bought every week used to be listed. Now they’re spread across about 5 different pages that I have to open in tabs and search each one of for everything to get everything added to my basket. New website is far far slower than the old one. Many items seem to be missing images for some reason and not sure if it’s related to the website or not but often when I search for something like hash browns every single product of that type shows as not currently available. Also seeing various encoding errors like ” & # 3 9 ; t” where spaces used to be.

      Wish I could even load the site properly. It freezes my browser (latest version of firefox) and it has hissy fits with my CPU. My laptop heats up and roars. Pages are slow and unresponsive and hard to even shut down. This never happened with the website they had up last year! They don’t take the slighest bit of notice of anything I tell them about the issues.

    Major problem today (12th December 2017) with online groceries which I first noticed yesterday evening. Unable to see current orders, just get an “Oops” message which is not helpful at all. Sometimes I can’t even get past the login but always the same message. Now I’m worried I won’t get the Christmas order next week. After a long phone call they admitted there was a problem but didn’t know when, if ever, they would be fixing it. They said I should get a smartphone and use their app instead, well that’s not exactly going to save any money is it? Thinking of getting Asda instead.

    Booked my time slot for online grocery delivery and added items to my basket, this all seemed to be ok. Problem came when trying to pay. I entered all of my payment card details and security code but when I got to the bottom of the payment section the system seemed to wipe out everything I had just typed in. I have tried to pay about 5 times now and the same thing keeps happening. Getting fed up now and have given up. I’ve wasted my time adding items to my basket to not be able to pay. So no food delivery tomorrow!! It would have been quicker for me to drive to the supermarket.

    I very much doubt that Tesco gives two hoots about customers being unable to do onlne grocery shopping. Why -I don’t know. Is it a ploy to get us all in-store instead? Maybe to get us all buying more things than were on our shopping list?
    A trick most supermarkets use is shift all the products round in a store and people end up spending more because they see more items instead of going straight to shelves where they know they will find their usual stuff.
    Is that what this sudden, new non-functional website is all about? Get us all in-store?
    If Tesco is doing that, they are betting on an outsider, and my bet is most customers who shop online do it because they either haven’t TIME to go in-store, or have no transport, or live far away, or are disabled.
    What is happening in reality is those customers will simply shop online elsewhere.

    Or is it just that they are incredibly thick and stubborn about their new website and don’t care that people can’t use it? Pigs might fly that they will back down and put up the old website again which worked very well.
    I find it incredible that they don’t care about customer satisfaction, or losing millions in sales!

    I referred their customer complaints dept. to these unhappy reviews and the ones on TrustPilot. Will they read them? Pigs might fly.

    We’ve been online customers for years and had no problems until the other week when a new website was introduced. Now it is laggy, slow, keeps freezing and crashing. If it doesn’t get fixed soon we will have no choice but to try Asda or Ocado. Must’ve spent thousands in the last few years. Very annoying, fixing a website that wasn’t broken and now is.

    Tesco groceries site completely unusable in SW scotland. It was bad enough on Thursday took hours to complete a shop (ridiculous!!) Had several weeks of loosing the slot ahead of time, and losing the whole lot during checkout.

    Now it gets stuck on the main page the message about accepting cookies seems to be the culprit. Clicking the X does nothing and nothing else works until it goes. If/when it eventually clears every function takes about 4 times longer than it should, with Ooops theres been a problem thrown in at random.

    This is crazy, you have had the new website up since September and still haven’t got it sorted. I assume you have optimised it for phone and app, so made it worse for anyone using a computer? Can you really afford to lose all of the older customers who of necessity need a bigger screen. Its not that we are stupid, behind the times or don’t understand the technology, we just cant cope with the size of a phone screen. As over 90% of over 65’s have a cataract I’m obviously not the only one.

    Horrendous service from Tesco internet providers or should I say no service. I have been unable to send text messages via whatsapp from my phone since 1am today. This is the most unreliable service I have used to date. Communication is important and often an emergency. That it is only available sometimes is not the deal that is being sold to the public. Whatever the issue its time that customers demand the truth about what is happening with the lines. No one should have to pay for a broken system!

    Final stage of checkout process fails with “Gateway Timeout – The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server”. This is in the SM2 area; tested on several web browsers and Windows 10 laptops.

    Not only is the new website terribly slow, I find it impossible to scroll through special offers or past purchases. The old website wasn’t broke and they didn’t need to fix it. It’s now so annoying to use that I don’t see myself shopping at Tesco during the remainder of my delivery saver contract. Time to try another supermarket?

    Well wow Tesco! Messed things up good and proper just ready for the Christmas rush haven’t you? I have been shopping with Tesco online for years. I calculate that on average I have spent between £12,000 and 14,000 in that time. Now I can’t buy a thing. Pages won’t load…..won’t scroll….take so long to even register a click….can’t get from “page 1” of a product list to “page 2″…can’t log out….can’t even shut the freaking page down! I can’t imagine what horrors would have awaited me if I’d had a spare week to devote to actually making it to checkout!

    I registered my complaint and Tesco were very polite, even asking me what browser I use. I told them to not even mention clearing cache and cookies! They told me the website was running a bit slow and that there were a few issues which were on the fast track to being sorted out.
    Okay 2 weeks later I tried again. Same negative experience. Waited 2 more weeks….exactly the same rubbish. Not one thing was any better.

    I have no choice but to use another store. Asda is very good, but unfortunately their bread is not as good and they don’t have a wide range of products. But I swear I am getting a LOT more for my money.

    So Tesco….my £12-14,000 is a mere drop in the ocean for you and you don’t care. But multiply that by a million disgruntled customers and you are in for a very bad Christmas this year! With the best will in the world I can no longer shop with you so bye bye.

    Planning to have a large shopping (one that will do me into next year) delivered on 21st Nov and thought I’d make a start last night. Despite numerous attempts I can’t seem to book a delivery slot and get the same message “Oops, something went wrong!” I noted when arriving at the website that it’s been updated/changed. My immediate thought on seeing the changed website was gawd no, this can’t be good. I was right. I’ll give it another few days as I’ve been shopping online with Tesco for more years than I care to remember, but after that I’m afraid it’s Asda for what will likely be my biggest shop of the year. Nothing wrong with the old website, I was able to do my shopping. They change it, and now I, and I suspect a great many other customers can’t do their shopping. So much for progress. There’s an old saying, if it’s working, then leave it alone. Tesco are going to lose a lot of business at what should be their busiest time of year if they don’t resolve this quickly. My advice would be ditch the new, and apparently unpopular website, and put the old one back online as quickly as possible so folk can get their shopping organised.

      After trying the fabulous new website again several times this morning I eventually gave up and placed my order with Asda. It was easy, no issues with their website, and perhaps even a wee bit cheaper. Tesco are going to be haemorrhaging customers at this rate. I’ve said it before, if it’s not broken, then leave it alone.

    My first attempt to use the online groceries as I have not been feeling well and assumed it would be straight forward. Wouldn’t let me make a payment and when I phoned I was told that it was down to my bank. Obviously not the case given the amount of problems people are having.

    I have just spent 2 hours doing my normal weekly shop that takes about 40 mins usually. Site kept crashing, wouldn’t put items I clicked on in basket and put unwanted items in as I was scrolling, that I then couldn’t delete. Too many pages with few items on that takes ages to get to next page. Have given up now – will have to go shopping tomorrow. Unless it changes to how it used to be I will have to shop elsewhere. Rubbish new site Tesco! Thought you were better than that. Very unhappy long time Tesco customer.

    I placed my food order last night and put my usual bank card through, confirmed my slot etc but just now the tesco delivery driver said no food delivery as payment was declined by my bank. Tried again and again they said it did not go through. Rang my bank, absolutely no problem, they said they have no record of tesco requesting payment. What on earth is going on. No food delivery! Not feeling happy at all.

    Recorded message when you ring about problems booking delivery slot. You have to go into your account and re-enter your delivery address. I did this by re-entering my postcode (exactly the same address) and clicked confirm. It worked for me. For them to have a recorded message saying this seems to suggest a lot of people have had the same issue!

    Delivery slots not available on many days. Is this an error or have they changed availability? The new website seems to have been the start of a downhill trend with Tesco; reduction in their range, products unavailable, etc. As previous comment suggests do they really think customers are going to mess about… there are other supermarkets which don’t have all these problems… which I’m finding i need to use now, as well and sometimes instead of Tesco.

    Delivery Slots unavailable to either of my addresses – Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Have telephoned CS – advised this is a common problem at the moment; you can book a different slot and telephone and ask an advisor to change it!! PITA :-/

    Had problems yesterday and today. Can select item , get to checkout and select the vouchers to pay but won’t process payment,just goes round in a loop. When I tried logging on again later I Lund it had held on to my vouchers. Ridiculous a company this size can’t resolve these issues. If I wasn’t using vouchers I would have bought my TV elsewhere !!
