Dolby Vision to compete for IMAX Avatar 2 showings

One movie that had to be seen in an IMAX theater was Avatar, as it made the world of Pandora come alive like nothing you could ever imagine, although many other movies have also been helped with this amazing projector technology. IMAX, for now, has mot really had a serious competitor, but that could all be about the change with Dolby Vision.

We know that when it comes to bringing the sound from movies to life Dolby is at the top of its game, but just imagine if the company was also able to bring the picture to life like never before as well?

Dolby Vision to compete with IMAX

Dolby Vision has been in development for many years and will use High dynamic range technology along with something else they are keeping secret for now. However, they have said the contrast ratio of its new technology will be far greater than anything currently available. There is a video below to explain this new technology in a little more detail.

If it is as good as the company says, then we have to wonder how long it will be before we see Dolby Vision theatres out there, as one of the biggest hurdles is finance, as Dolby will need to convince movie houses it is worth the investment to build new cinema’s.

Having said that, there has to be some sort of deals going on, as it is rumored that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be one of the first movies to be shown in this new format, which as we know will be released next summer.

However, the big question will be if it does take off, then will Dolby Vision be favored over IMAX for Avatar 2 showings in 2016?
