We have some really exciting news for all you Doctor Who fans out there now, as BBC Worldwide has just announced that it will be releasing a brand new free-to-play MMO later this year. The multiplayer online game, which is being developed by Three Rings, will be called Doctor Who: Worlds in Time.
According to a recent article by Matthew Reynolds over on the digitalspy.co.uk website, Robert Nashak — BBC Online’s EVP of digital entertainment — said that the new Doctor Who: Worlds in Time game will invite players to save the universe, by solving “pulse pounding” challenges and “time-bending” puzzles.
As David M. Ewalt from forbes.com recently reported, the game will be Flash-based, and won’t require a download. The BBC stated that the game is being designed with social play in mind, enabling gamers to connect and play together in smaller or bigger groups, with appropriate challenges for each.
The Doctor Who franchise has been around for 47 years now, and has seen a total of 770 episodes and 11 different lead actors playing the Doctor. The TV series has won over 65 awards, and holds the Guinness World Record for the Most Successful Sci-Fi show of all time.
