Digital Camera Review: Nikon Coolpix S8100

There is a lot of choice out there these days when it comes to digital cameras. All of the major camera manufactures have a vast range of equipment available for all budgets and needs. Nikon have always been regarded as one of the top companies producing quality DSLR’s, but are also producing some good compact digital cameras.

TechReview Source have recently tested the Nikon Coolpix S8100, and found the smart looking compact can easily be slipped into a purse or pocket. Offered in a variety of colors, the 12.1-megapixel camera has an advanced CMOS sensor and a 10x optical zoom. Round the back you will find a 3-inch LCD display with 921,000-pixel resolution.

One thing that could be cause for concern is the battery, it is only rated for 210 shots and there is no battery indicator on the LCD display. This could prove to be a problem for some owners. Media storage that is supported by the Nikon is SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. Actual image quality with the Coolpix was very good, and returned above average results.

Cnet have also been testing the Nikon Coolpix S8100, but they found the camera to have only average shooting performance, with its design the only thing to be above average. The cameras sensor does allow for better low-light images compared to the model it replaced. For the price level which is around the $250 mark, the S8100 was found to be one of the better compact cameras’ to be tested.
