Detroit Auto Show 2010: Volkswagen Compact Coupe Hybrid Debut

The 2010 Detroit Auto Show is now well under way and we have already seen some great cars being unveiled, this includes the GMC Granite and the new Ford Focus. However, Volkswagen is now getting in on the action, as their New Compact Coupe (NCC) Hybrid gets its debut.

Most concept vehicles always look unfinished, but Autoblog points out how the Compact Coupe looks as if it is ready for production. The new vehicle is designed to fit between the North American version of the Scirocco and the CC. The NCC will be aimed to compete in a market dominated by the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.

The New Compact Coupe from VW will be powered by two systems, a standard 1.4-liter TSI inline-four engine that pushes out 148 horsepower and a 20-kilowatt electric motor. The two systems have a seven-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox separating them.

Volkswagen has worked hard on the hybrid system to make it as fuel efficient as possible, to further save fuel the transmission can be decoupled, this will allow you to coast while on the highway. The exact details of this feature are not yet available.

VW estimates that the NCC should be able to achieve 45 miles per gallon, the EU has it at 56MPG. The hybrid should go from 0 to 60 in 8.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of 141 mph. For all the details visit Autoblog.
