Destiny first party status on PS4 says Sony

Are you enjoying Destiny so far? After months of waiting the game is now available to play officially, with Bungie and Activision coming good on their promised September 9 launch.

There has been a big debate on which version is better to play between Xbox and PlayStation, however. Sony had recently said that the ultimate Destiny experience can ‘only’ be found on PlayStation, but this week they have taken things a step further.

In a recent interview, Sony’s UK managing director Fergal Gara has said that the company are treating Destiny as a ‘first-party’ title, despite the fact that it’s published by Activision and of course that it’s available to play on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The reason for this, is that they believe Destiny to be a special and unique case, considering that it features exclusive content for PlayStation versions, spread out across both digital and physical exclusive content and an exclusive console bundle.

Gara is very confident that Destiny on PlayStation is going to drive PS4 sales, even going as far to say that it could kick-start Christmas for Sony.

“We’re wrapping our arms around it on all levels of the organisation. It’s a special project and an important project and it has the power to launch Christmas. It’s hugely important.”

We’re not sure we’ve ever seen a similar situation in where Sony would call a game that has not been published by themselves, a first-party title. What do you make of it – did you buy the PlayStation version solely for the best experience with more content to play or have you still picked up the game on Xbox?
