Dell and HP celebrate Memorial Day 2011

Today is May 30th and is nice to see both Dell and HP celebrate Memorial Day 2011. The two companies have been in competition with each other for years, and looking at the deals they have on offer it looks as though the rivalry is a long way from over. Dell will end their deals tomorrow, while HP is to extend theirs to an extra day.

Dell was once the largest PC maker but was pushed to the number two spot by HP. Since then they have had yet more knocks, with Acer now at number two and Apple at number three, leaving Dell now at number four. You have to wonder what they have to do; they never seem to get a break? It seems that they need to have a read of Spencer Johnson’s book “Who Moved My Cheese”, as it seems thy have allowed theirs to go a little stale.

Dell is located in Texas and is the largest non-oil company in the state. That is an interesting fact, considering that they use a number of environmentally friendly technologies for their power; such as wind farms and landfill gas.

So we know that Hewlett Packard has been the number one PC maker for a few years now, but it seems that their growth has started to slow down. We already know that their growth was just 2.9 percent from the year before, compare that to 8.8 for Acer and a massive 241 percent for Apple. However, this is all thanks to the iPad, which has certainly helped boost Apple sales.

We do not want to go down the route of all the individual deals that Dell and HP are offering during Memorial Day 2011; but we will tell you that they both currently have free shipping on all orders. Doing a quick scan it looks as though Dell might have the edge, but that is all down to you to decide.

At the end of the day most consumers do not care who is the number one PC maker, all they want to know is who has the best products, and for some that would be Apple, but that is down to personal taste. Having said that, we have to admire how far Acer has come considering they were never considered to be on par with either HP or Dell.

Whenever Dell or HP have a sales on, which of the two do you normally visit first?
