Dead Block game review round-up: Fun but repetitive

Zombie-themed video games (and add-ons) appear to be quite popular with gamers these days, and the list of games keeps growing longer and longer. Although a lot of the recent hype has been about the much-anticipated Dead Island game, which is due to arrive in stores in September this year, it’s actually Candygun Games’ recently released Dead Block title that we’re focusing on today.

For those of you that don’t know what Dead Block is, it’s a third-person action defense zombie survival game set during the 1950s. In the game, three survivors — construction worker Jack Foster, traffic warden Foxy Jones and Boy Scout Mike Bacon — are tasked with keeping a horde of zombies from entering their safehouse using a combination of traps, weapons and blockades.

While some of you may have already purchased and played the Dead Block game, others may be waiting to read a few reviews before they decide whether or not to download it. We thought we’d help those that fall in the latter category by providing a brief review round up. The first review we looked at is from Gareth Smith over on, who only gave the game a score of 4/10.

Gareth says that although the Dead Block game does have some good ideas, its gameplay unfortunately doesn’t evolve and does become boring quite quickly. Another disappointing thing about the game in Gareth’s opinion is the fact that it doesn’t have online play. Meanwhile, Mario Diaz from the website gave the Dead Block game an overall rating of 3 out of 5.

The strength of Dead Block in Mario’s opinion is in the fact that it’s a very simple game with easy controls. However, Mario goes on to note that although the game is fun when you are playing with friends and family, it does get quite repetitive. Another reviewer that appeared disappointed with the Dead Block game is Drew Monroe from, who only gave it a 2/5 score.

According to this reviewer, the game unfortunately falls flat after the first 20 to 30 minutes. Drew states that although the game is fun to play, it is only fun to play for a short amount of time. The final review comes from Charles Tyldsley over at, who gave the game an overall rating of 6.5/10. Charles says that the game is bearable in short bursts, but does get monotonous if played more.
