Dark Souls 2 has had some release day matchmaking problems on the PS3, with FromSoftware already looking at an update. In addition to these issues there will be even more downtime after scheduled PlayStation Network server maintenance has been announced by Sony.
Namco Bandai are working with FromSoftware to fix the matchmaking issue which has been affecting PS3 players. According to CVG a day one update should be rolled out for PS3 and Xbox One users ahead of the European launch on March 14th. Dark Souls 2 has had very positive reviews so far and these will not want do be tarnished with release date multiplayer issues.
Today’s update in North America should rectify the matchmaking problem, however full patch notes have not been made available yet. The PC version does not launch until April 26 meaning that the publisher and developer teams will have plenty of time to iron out all of the early issues and have a stable platform ready to play on.
Sony has planned PSN server maintenance on March 12th 11:00pm – March 13th 2:00am PDT, March 13th 3:00pm – 6:00pm JST, March 13th 8:00am – 11:00pm GMT and March 13th 2:00am – 5:00am EDT. This downtime is clearly not ideal and will frustrate players so early on, however it is necessary to prevent further issues and server crashes in the near future.
