Crash blame: Mac OS X Lion compatibility with Adobe Flash

The issues sounding the new Mac OS X Lion and Adobe Flash are starting to really annoy Apple users, not only are we getting reports of issues with Flash heavy sites, which leads to the Mac CPU running extremely hot and a laptops battery life running out fast, but also problems with Dreamweaver are being reported. This article looks at the issue with Creative Suite 5.5 and OS X Lion 10.7, although we haven’t had problems with our version of Dreamweaver 5.5 but the Lion installation is not without problems.

Watching YouTube videos on the first generation MacBook Air was known for increasing the fan speed, but on the 2011 MacBook Air this is not a problem, until you install OS X Lion. We’ve visited a few sites that run flash advertisements, which have caused our 2011 iMac to completely lockup apart from the mouse pointer. We reported this issue to our readers a few days ago, since then things have become more evident. Each time the computer sleeps and then wakes up again, you can count on a lockup by visiting YouTube or most types of flash content. Having to force the iMac to shutdown can hurt hard drives so we, and our readers are not happy with Apple or Adobe, which leads us to the question: Who should we blame for the freezing on OS X Lion, Adobe or Apple?

The problems we’ve had and our readers have reported are directed heavily towards Adobe flash, and also include the player under OS X 10.7. Have you had enough of crashes on Lion, which until this version has been known as a solid operating system? Apple if you’re listening, get that patch live NOW and if it’s an Adobe issue, then we’d like to see some sort of press release on this. Let us know in the comments if you’ve had issues with Lion, and who is to blame in your opinion.

I cannot run some Facebook Aps built on Adobe flash. I need to run them on my Windows Machine, not the iMac running Lion.

I am a graphic designer and use mac for so many years. I upgraded the OS to Lion from Snow Leopard few days back and my nightmares started. I am thinking of down grade my mac to Snow Leopard. I work on Adobe softeners and is literally in tears because of the crashes, freezing and slow issues. I am having problems in Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, and Bridge and Real Player Downloader. I am very disappointed with APPLE. This company is moving backwards rather than moving forward with times. If this is the way they are going then dooms day is… Read more »

New MacBook Air with i5 – Using Chrome and fan is going crazy playing Angry Birds through Chrome (I know, not the best use of my time). As soon as I go off of the Angry Birds game and to regular browsing, fan cuts off. This sucks – i didn’t see this problem with any of the demos in the store. I sure hope Apple corrects this problem.

I am about to down grade all our macs. We are a mainly adobe office that can’t deal with the crashes and long save time issues. We have the problems in Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, and Bridge. This is a huge, very disappointing issue for us. Almost feels like the US government… figure out how to play nice or I am going to PC and Corel draw… Give me Macromedia back.

I am greatly disappointed in Apple. I have been a loyal consumer of there products, and feel that they have let all of us down. I understand that at times things don’t quite work they way they are suppose to, but accept responsibility and tell your consumers that you are trying to address the problem. Not accepting responsibility nor publicly stating that you are looking into it, leaves a bad impression with your products and your company name.  I have addressed these issues through appointments via express lane, twice with no success in fixing the issue. I have a 27… Read more »

As much as I like Apple products – I do not understand how and application can bring an OS to a halt. Interestingly, iTunes music is still playing in the background after the system “crashed”. I can’t imagine that this happens only to a few – and I do not get why their is still no solution, neither from Apple nor from Adobe.

I uninstalled Flash and started using Chrome to do all of my flash viewing in Chrome… although I like Safari better it seems to fix all the problems… and given that google some how got flash to work leads me to believe this is Adobe’s fault… would like to hear if this fix works for anybody else

I have had this problem and have had to manually shut down my computer some 7-8 times in the 2 weeks since I bought my brand new iMac. It’s so upsetting to spend a lot of money on a computer and then run the risk of ruining it just because of what seems like an easily fixed patch problem. This is such a fail for Apple to release Lion without making sure it can be compatible with Flash, since Flash is so widely used…

And at last found some tips from ifunia, upgrade my flash player and Java’s  “Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications”, now seem to be able to play YouTube videos with no problem.
