Craigslist: Adult services censored in US

Online classified site Craigslist has removed ‘Adult Services’ listings from its US based sites late on Friday and replaced it with the word ‘censored’.

Evan Hansen from Wired News is reporting on an article via Techcrunch, that Craigslist didn’t announce the decision and there was no mention of it in its blog on Saturday morning. They have also not replied to email and voice messages about the news.

Craigslist has come under increasing pressure concerning sex services advertised on its network, and that it helps human sex trafficking. Prostitution sting operations are regularly carried out by the police using the listings.

Only last week the company got a letter from seventeen state attorney general’s demanding that the listings were removed immediately, this was after two girls said they were trafficked for sex through the site. The adult services section currently accounts for 30% of its total revenue, but the site has made changes to these types of listings imposing rules of what can appear, and manually checking ads.

Ridiculous! sites like http://www.adultsearch.com/ have just as many escorts posting, but no one bothers them. Why craigslist? Personally, I like getting my roomates & hookers in the same place.
