Could Microsoft be about to snap up Nokia, good buy?

Nokia are currently busy launching their first Windows Phone handsets in a move that the company hopes will bring former successes back to the Finnish manufacturer. Now we can tell you that some believe that Microsoft could be about to snap up Nokia, but would it be a good buy?

There have been rumors for a while suggesting that Nokia could eventually be sold off, and according to SlashGear the Danske Bank is predicting Nokia will sell its smartphone arm to Microsoft. It is even thought the deal could be announced during the first half of next year. The speculation saw Nokia’s share price climb more than three percent, although the company stresses no deal will take place.

Nokia has recently launched the Lumia 710 and 800 and has been marketing the devices hard, and have even attacked the Android and iPhone platforms. Analysts from Danske Bank feel the sale of Nokia’s smartphone division “makes sense” with Microsoft the likely suitor. Nokia have responded with Doug Dawson stating that “we put these rumors to rest a long time ago”.

Speculation still remains though with talk of a $19 billion sale price earlier this year and as well as this week. If Microsoft does purchase Nokia they wouldn’t be the first to bring a manufacturer in-house, as Google has already started the process of purchasing Motorola Mobility.

The search engine giant has already said it won’t be using Motorola automatically for future Nexus handsets, but it is thought it will use it to show how it wants Android to develop. Do you think Microsoft purchasing Nokia would be good business?
