Civilization V: PC update goes live – List of changes

The PC version of Firaxis Games’ hugely popular turn-based strategy game Civilization V ( aka Civ 5) has received various patches / updates since it was first released back in September last year, which have included a number of different fixes and minor improvements, as well as some major alterations to the gameplay. Now we have just received word that another new PC update has gone live.

According to John Papadopoulos over on the dsogaming.com website, the latest update has improved the enemy AI, rebalanced the game in order to make the higher difficulty levels more challenging and includes a number of improvements to the game’s multiplayer mode. For example, players should now find that the multiplayer AI is consistent with the single player AI.

They should also discover that Hot Seat is now available through the multiplayer menu, and all maps — including user created and purchased maps — will be available to play in Hot Seat. The latest update has also added a combat preview for aircraft UI and fixed an aircraft UI bug that was causing Atomic Bombers and Nuclear Missiles to leave behind container UI after they were destroyed.

Another problem that’s been fixed is the aircraft UI issue that was causing the aircraft selection UI to duplicate itself when rebasing the aircraft. The latest update has also made it so that the AI will now recognize a gamer that captured their capital and remember when it has been nuked for permanent diplomatic penalties. AI players will now be able to use a Great General in early rushes on higher difficulties.

In terms of gameplay changes, players will now be given the option the return a CS worker that they have freed from the Barbarians, and roads under captured cities will no longer charge maintenance. The update has also fixed the Oligarchy bug, which was causing the effect to expire when players were loading from a save. The influence that you receive for killing a barbarian for a city state has now been increased from 5 to 12.

Unhappiness per city has also been increased from 2 to 3. Meanwhile, the Culture from Goody Huts has been reduced from 30 to 20. The new patch has also fixed a bug in Lua, where ‘Events…Remove’ was not working correctly. Action icons will now use the database in the same way as the other icons do, rather than using ActionIcons.lua. You can read more about the changes via dsogaming.com.
