We have an update on the huge chicken nugget recall that was issued by Perdue earlier on this week, as the company has issued a statement with some information for customers to read.
If you need a recap of the story, you can read through our previous report here. Over 90,000lb of chicken nugget products were recalled by Perdue, over confirmations that some packaging contained small pieces of blue plastic.
Over on Perdue’s website, Bruce Stewart-Brown, Perdue’s Senior Vice President for Food Safety and Quality has given us the main reason why the plastic was first discovered in some products, as he explained:
“We determined the likely source was a small plastic ring that got into the raw material before the nuggets were formed. This would have resulted in a minimal amount of consumer packages potentially containing nuggets with the plastic.”
As a result of this, the company decided to recall all of their ”Great Value-branded fully cooked chicken nuggets”, which can be identified with a “Best If Used By Date” of June 9, 2011.
There is more information on Perdue’s chicken nugget recall on their official website. You can also find some important information on this recall here.
