Cheaper Tesla Model 3 price and range, not E

Tesla has been planning to introduce a cheaper model that will be more mainstream and so appeal to drivers on a more realistic budget, but not much had been known to us, until now. Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has been interviewed and during the interview he was very open about many aspects of his company, as well as the name of the next vehicle in the range, which is to be called the Model 3 or III as it will be known.

The Tesla Model 3 will be a rival to the BMW 3-Series and for those who are a little confused having never heard this name before, it was going to be called the Model E, but Musk got into it with Ford and so had to drop the name and go with the new moniker instead.

Tesla Model 3 price — Seeing as though this will be Tesla’s budget model the price point needs to be right, and Musk has confirmed that we should expect to pay around $35,000, which is far cheaper than the Roadster and Model S. However, its size will be 20 percent smaller than the Model S, which helps to reduce cost.

Expected Model 3 range — We know that the range of the S varies depending on which battery option you choose, which are 208 miles, 265 miles and 265 miles. It is uncertain if the smaller Model 3 will have this choice, but during the Auto Express interview Musk says the range will be more than 200 miles per charge.

The new model coming to Tesla will not be made with the same aluminum platform as the Model S, as this is not cost-effective, and will also be looking into more cost-effective batteries.

As for the Model 3 exterior design, we do not have any ideas as yet, although with its release planned for 2017, we don’t expect it will be too long before the first sketches start to appear.
