CES 2013: Meet the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses

We already knew last year that Google were to see more rivals to their Google Glass device, so we’re happy that we can finally meet the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses, which as you would expect has been on show at CES 2013. A number of you will wonder how other companies can get away with developing these devices, but you have to remember that they will only care if those headsets are using the same kind of system.

Vuzix has been in the headset game for many years now, so was only a matter of time before they offered an alternative to Google Glass (Goggles), but do they have what it takes, and how long will we have to wait before they are finally released to the market?

You’ll notice from the image above, thanks to CNET, that the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses has an arm that extends in front of the wearers eye so that they will be able to make use of the HD camera and floating eyepiece display, which will eventually run on Android OS. While we have no exact Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses release date set in stone, we are told that they should be available to purchase sometime in summer 2013, and a few months later for the iOS version.

It’s no secret that using such technology will take some getting used to, and will almost certainly come with a few health and safety warnings — well it would be easy to bang into a few things, or even worse. It’s not yet known what these glasses will be used for, but the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses price is rumored to be in the region of $500 or below, which could certainly limit their appeal to consumers. A hands-on video of the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses can be viewed below.

Personally we feel that Google Glass is the better option because they seem a more practical device, there’s also the fact that they will be able to implement the software much better as well.
