Canon 70D unveil date following Nikon D7100 release

While Canon has yet to make the 70D official we would like to think that the company sending invites out shortly after the release of the Nikon D7100 is proof enough that the Canon EOS 70D unveil is what the impending event is all about. However, the release of the new PowerShot camera is the main reason for the event.

The anticipation level for the expected release of the 70D is pretty high because the successor to the 60D will be going up against a DSLR that has proved very popular way before its recent release, and that’s the D7100 from Nikon. Speaking of that particular camera, it seems that there have been a few stock issues, which we recently discussed.

Going back to the Canon 70D (possible) unveil, the invitations were not like anything we have seen before, because those who received these invites found them being delivered by way of a projector pen, which you can see for yourself here, although there was a traditional invite in the box as well.

When you turn the pen on and shine it on the wall you see a secret message, but the label for the pen says “IXUS / PowerShot,” which means there is no mention of the 70D. However, this is not saying that it will not make a surprise appearance because surely Canon will need an answer for the D7100, which we are certain will cannibalize sales of the 60D?

Do you believe that we will see the Canon 70D being unveiled at this event, or are we reading too much in to it?
