Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3: Reasons not to buy

A lot is being made about the upcoming release of the latest Call of Duty installment, and the Battlefield 3 release. Some gamers are planning on purchasing both titles, while both games have its own sets of fans. But today we are looking at Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, and reasons not to buy the game this time round.

The Call of Duty franchise is often criticized over the annual refresh, and Robert Cram of MSXBoxWorld has given some reasons why you should ignore Modern Warfare 3. Besides Battlefield 3 there is a whole host of other quality games due for release to take up your gaming time.

One thing that can be really annoying with Call of Duty games whether it’s on PSN or Xbox Live, can be all the young kids shouting into their headsets and just mucking around. You can also bet within a short time of the game being available loads of gamers will be playing the game using cheats and exploits.

Modern Warfare 3 will just be a refresh of previous Call of Duty titles with just a few tweaks and enhancements. This can be said for a lot of franchises but Call of Duty gets a new title every year now, and could maybe do with a rest. This is unlikely to happen though as it continues to sell really well, with Black Ops breaking records.

Personally I have always gone out a purchased the latest installment, but the last two have been a little disappointing in my eyes. I like playing the campaign mode before going online and while the original Modern Warfare was great, the last two offerings have been a bit short, especially Warfare 2.

As with anything it’s down to personal choice and this year my money is going to Battlefield 3, which will be my first taste of the franchise. Many gamers will bite the bullet and fork out for both games, but as there is a lot of other quality games being released between now and Christmas I won’t be one of them.

You may totally disagree and want Modern Warfare 3 over any other game, and it will undoubtedly sell like hot cakes. It remains to be seen though if it can match the success of Black Ops considering the increased competition this year.

Which title will be getting your money this year?

I’m getting Battlefield 3.

I didn’t have high expections of mw3 anyway after the debacle that was mw2, and quickscoping being in it has convinced me not to get it.

With all the money COD series have made they should at least offer dedicated servers & upgraded engine for their fans who supports their games. Smaller companies like THQ offered dedicated servers for Homefront but failed in supporting the game and it’s community. I’ll buy BF3 because it offers more than MW3, dedicated servers, better graphics, bigger maps, vehicle warfare and more players in the playlist (24vs24). More bang for the buck.

Don’t understand why you can’t use the Mute button? I play with a few other mates on xbox and we just talk within our party without listening to any punk kids. Don’t understand why you didn’t like MW2 campaign? Although BF2 multiplayer was ok, campaign was a joke and boring as batsh*t. Running down a mountain trying to keep warm at different fires is laughable! BF3 looks brilliant, just hope its console version is as good as previews and its 100 times better than BF2. MW3 will be fun, as is always the case with COD with fast paced action. I will be getting… Read more »

if you are going to write an articke on why you should pass on this game at least mention West and Zampella not being in charge of the franchise anymore. It is true that the COD series is getting old and boring, but how can you leave that out?

You’re out of college and arguing with someone about a video game…..yea your life is amazing, right?

ANYWAY!  If you have ever touched a Battlefield game, you would know you don’t just blow up everything you see.  That’s common sense.  It’s also common sense that BF’s multiplayer is no where near easy.  You want easy?  Go play CoD & Halo……hell CoD’s meant to be easy.  That’s why it sells so well.

I like the COD games it’s just I can’t take no more of the total disregard for other people playing the game, the fowl language has just made me put the game on the shelf! I knew when nothing was done about the hacking on MW2,it was just a matter of time before someone said why I’m I hacking the game when I could be hacking PSN network! Said then that it’s to Sony’s best interest to do something about this hacking before it moves on to bigger and better things! And we all know what happened next! All the money… Read more »

So what it boils down to is, don’t buy MW3 because you can’t work your mute function? Really? If you’re going to take the previous entries into account for CoD, you should do so with Battlefield. What was the last good shooter in the Battlefield franchise on Xbox or PS3? There isn’t one. BF2 was probably the best shooter I’ve ever played… on the PC. Given that a lot of the info I’ve heard about BF3, and the fact that their demo at E3 and all other in game footage I’ve seen is run off of a PC, I don’t expect… Read more »

Product reviews: reasons not to read their articles.

Whilst this may seem a biased article, he does in fact mention that he hasn’t previously played a BF title but has bought each CoD installment.

I take this as the opinion of someone intelligent enough to properly observe the 2 franchises at face value.

The reason why you don’t hear little kids crying on battlefield 2 is because no one uses mics in that game because you cant talk to your whole team

I would be getting BF3 and Mass Effect 3 but seeing as ME won’t be out till sometime in 2012, i guess i’ll get MW3.

I think you are spot on about “kids shouting into their headsets” & “loads of gamers will be playing the game using cheats and exploits.” This is why I stoped playing COD… I dont hop on so I can here little kids (That shouldn’t be playing this game in the first place) scream, cry, whine, and be annoying. I’m glad the little kids have a game they love though cuz I don’t have to hear that crap when I play any of the Battlefield series. BF3 ALL THE WAY!!!

Wow 2 days in a row of completely slanted articles favoring bf3 instead of cod. The respect I had for this website is dwindling very quickly.

How much are you getting paid by ea to write this stuff, most of what you have written is laughable. You have loads of talent to make it as a comedian and I wish you the best of luck..

Gary Johnson, you shoulden’t be persuading people to not buy mw3. Its their choice

It isn’t a long campaign. Theres maybe 8 hours of gameplay single player, max. Didn’t even replay the Black Ops campaign, unlike CoD4 which I played at least 20 times over. Call of Duty has lost its way, it needs a serious revamp, because once both games come out, more people will realise how much better BF3 is than MW3, even if they don’t like the playstyle, the graphics and the authenticity of BF3 wouldl surely convince any diehard CoD fan that they need to rethink their purchasing strategy.

dude didn’t you see the game play for cod its f***ing  amazing don tell me that isn’t a long campaign
