Call of Duty: 2014 leaks point towards a new Modern Warfare

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the biggest in the games industry, so when rumours of a new title start to emerge we cannot help but remain sceptical about the speculation surrounding it. With Sledgehammer Games on board as the new developer we are expecting a new direction, but insider leaks suggest the upcoming Call of Duty: 2014 will be a new Modern Warfare.

This rumour is worth taking into consideration as the claims come from Ghosts leaker, Drift0r, who was the same person that leaked details for the current Ghosts title to the gaming community. In an article on MP1ST they highlight comments made by Drift0r as he explains how he was approached by an insider at Sledgehammer.

Apparently, he was treated to a collection of files and game assets and mentions a new map that he says looks like “some sort of power plant.” Drift0r says this is a new Modern Warfare entry, although he does feel this may not be specifically MW4. He gives us the impression this is not set in the past and doesn’t revolve around any particular war, and going by the hi-tech weapons this could be set in the near future.

While Drift0r feels the information he received seems legitimate enough to share, we are still apprehensive about putting too much trust in these comments. With that in mind, his background of sharing prominent details that have come true makes this more believable than other wild rumours.

Only yesterday we spoke about Sledgehammer Games job adverts giving clues that mention vehicle destruction, dynamic weather systems and weaponry effects. We discussed confirmation that the 2014 Call of Duty title will be a next-gen focus, so we are anticipating better visuals and graphics, but what else do you think can be done to make the next Call of Duty game more unique?
