BP Oil Spill: Update on new technology

The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has not only affected the creatures that live in the sea but also those whose livelihoods is controlled by the seas — such as fisherman, and tourist areas next to beaches. BP has tried a number of ways to try and stop the flow of oil spewing out of the broken pipe, but now it is time to try some new technology.

Kevin Costner, the Hollywood star has been to congress to talk about the technology that he has pumped $20 million into, saying that it could be used to help separate oil from water. Costner has been working in this new system since the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, and now thinks that CINC is the answer.

The star said that this is a very effective tool when it comes to cleaning up oil spills like this one. The tool is small so that it can be used on a small watercraft, but it is also tough to withstand what the rough seas can throw at it.

AFP reports that BP has tested out this new technology and is almost ready to place orders, which must make Costner very happy. It is certainly nice to see that a Hollywood star is prepared to go out of his way to help our planet — just wish more of them were like that.
