For those of you on the lookout for Borderlands 3 news, listen up. Developer Gearbox software as confirmed that whilst Borderlands 3 is desired by the studio and there is still more to come from the franchise, the game is not currently in development and the release status is unknown.
The head of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford has said that the studio are working on 2 separate titles this year for the PS4 and Xbox One, and that a future Borderlands 3 game would have to be both next and current gen. Pitchford went on to say that Gearbox know that they want the game and that it should exist; however they do not know what it is yet.
These comments suggest that the studio is pretty wrapped up with its work on these other titles, that they have not sat down yet to discuss ideas for Borderlands 3. Pitchford said that the potential future game should be massive, even more so than Borderlands 2. If it were to be coming in the near future the story should be carried on, although as it stands it does not look like we will see Borderlands 3 in the near future unfortunately.
Pitchford hinted that Gearbox are far from finished with Borderlands and that they are doing more good things that will excite fans and be announced soon. Hopefully this announcement will come with a nice surprise. We know that there will be DLC content for Borderlands 2 to released in April, CVG reports that the game will also get a PS Vita Slim launch in the Spring.
Are you disappointed to hear that Borderlands 3 is not in development, or do you have plenty of other game releases to keep you occupied until any potential release in the future?
