The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 140 complaints due to a power steering failure, and as a result is now investigating the BMW Z4 and the Mazda3. If the NHTSA finds anything wrong with these vehicles then this could lead to 342,000 models being recalled
The agency has been taking a more hands-on approach when it comes to safety fears with vehicles — something that was sparked off by the 8 million Toyota recalls. It seems as if they do not ever want things to get out of hand, as they have done for the Japanese automaker.
Angela Greiling Keane from BuisinessWeek has been talking to senior editor at Edmunds.com, Bill Visnic, where he said, “Nobody’s hanging around waiting on these things.“ We just wish that something like this was done a long time ago — but we suppose better late than never.
There have been reports of three crashes for the 2007-2009 Mazda3, and just one report for the 2003-2005 BMW Z4 — although both models has received 140 complaints between them. We will keep you informed once we know more.
