BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept: Release And Price Update

We have seen how far hybrids have come over the years, not just in the technology but their design as well. The Prius was seen as a huge step forward when it comes to what drives our car, but lets face it — the thing was not exactly the best looking thing on the road.

The reason for this was designing a vehicle with the least amount of drag as possible, and the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept supercar will show just how far those clever German’s have come with such technology. We now have news that this latest effort could be launched in time for the 2012 London Olympics; Mike Magrath from Inside Line reports that the hybrid supercar will be on our streets in the spring of 2011.

Not only will the Vision EfficientDynamics be in direct competition with the Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell – which also goes on sale in the same year — but also the Audi R8 e-Tron as well. Magrath has also managed to offer an insight to the price of the new BMW — lets just hope you have a spare $250,000 kicking around?

What I find interesting about the Mercedes vehicle is its central driving position — much like that of the McLaren F1 from all those years ago. We do not know if this design feature will stick once it hits production, but Autocar is not certain that the rear-facing fourth seat will.
