BMW i9 a P1, 918 and La Ferrari on a budget

BMW has only recently launched the i8 in certain countries, and there is already talk about its successor. There are fresh rumors suggesting that for its 100th anniversary the German carmaker is to release the BMW i9 in 2016, and looking at the proposed specs would effectively be a McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and a Ferrari LaFerrari on a budget.

It’s a bit strange to hear that BMW is working on an i8 successor, especially when you consider that this was said to be the most technically advanced car from BMW and that it is a vision of the future that is already here.

Why would BMW wish to come up with a successor to the i8 when there really is no need, even if it is said to be a faster version with increased performance? If this was the case, then they should just call it the BMW i8 M sport or something like that.

Going back to the rumor, the vehicle is expected to produce more than the current 266 kW of power from its electric motor, and possibly come with a larger displacement engine, seeing as though the i8 has just a 1.5-liter engine.

As for performance, the i9 is said to go from 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155 mph. It is this top speed that we have an issue with because it seems pointless to come up with a more powerful version of the i8, yet limit its top speed.

It is clear that we feel the idea of an i9 is a pointless idea to celebrate BMW’s 100th anniversary, and for that reason we feel that a successor to the M1 would be better, what do you think?
